hard to say, I think it's not really fair or right to say any of these young dudes vs legends in that we don't know yet.. I laughed thinking about Teo vs Pea.. I mean maybe he WILL end up great but it's so early in their careers. Honestly, right now, i'd pick prime for prime JMM. He was an exceptional counter puncher
If JMM had the style to beat a guy with all Davis' attributes plus waaaaayyyyyyyyy more talent and skill, then i dont see how Tank has a shot in Hell. Tank would be walking into the right cross non-stop. Marquez by late KO.
I don't see it as quite this simple, even though I'd pick JMM too. At 135 Juan Diaz made a good effort against Marquez, and landed plenty. Tank is on different level as a puncher. Pac's style was based on those incredibly quick harpoon-attacks, which JMM timed masterfully. Tank's attacking style is more measured
Measured or not, Tank is a lot more hittable than Pac, and Tank is less athletic than Pac. On top of that, JMM was sharper/better at 130 than he was at 135. I suppose there's always the chance of Tank landing a bomb, but Marquez isn't gonna be as easy to nail with one of those as a totally one dimensional guy like Leo.
Also, Diaz was a style thing. Diaz was a buzzsaw type pressure fighter who threw 80-100 punches per round. Thats not how Davis fights, but based on styles Davis probably beats Diaz more emphatically than Marquez did. Davis probably blasts Baby Cow Diaz inside of 6-7.
Good Point... It's EASY to Say "Well JMM Beat Pac...", But the Thing Is They Fought 4 Fucking Times!!!... & w/JMM Fairing Better and BETTER Each Outing, the BEST JMM-Pac Bout to Reference, in Terms of Handicapping JMM vs. Tank, is JMM-Pac I... In THAT Fight, JMM Was Dropped 3x in the Very 1st Round, Had His Nose Broken and was Actually Pretty FORTUNATE the Ref Didn't Stop it After the 3rd Knockdown...Yes, JMM Adjusted WELL, But There was a VERY ROUGH Indoctrination He Had to Endure Before Adjusting, Because He Didn't QUITE Know What to Expect @ the Beginning... Sure, Tank and Pac are Both Souf'Paws, But They're Faaaaaaaaaaaaar from Carbon Copies of One Another, Stylistically...Gauging How JMM Perfectly Timed Pac in their 4th Meeting Means Absolutely NATHAN Whilst Engaging JMM vs. Tank Davis for the Very 1st Time... REED Would Lean Towards JMM 6 Out of 10, But We're Talking About a Dude Who LOST CONVINCINGLY to Tim Bradley...Bradley's More DISCIPLINED, but Tank is Clearly More TALENTED than Tim... JMM-Tank is Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from a Foregone Conclusion...Like REED Said, 6-4 JMM, Best Case Scenario....5-5 More Than Likely and POSSIBLY 6-4 in Tank's Favor... REED
Bruh, it's not a valid point because that fight was at 147 against an ancient JMM. We're talking about a matchup at 130 against a prime JMM. Bradley and Tank also fight NOTHING alike. It's not in Tank's nature to fight disciplined the way Timmy did against Marquez.
& Herein Lies the Problem w/Mythical Matchups... 1. JMM Fought Bradley 1 Fight AFTER KO'ing Pacquiao, But People Will GLADLY Reference the Pac KO for Southpaw Purposes, Regarding Tank-JMM Mythically...All the While IGNORING the Fact JMM Was Every Bit as "Ancient" AND the KO Happened @ '47... So JMM-Pac IV, @ '47 Counts but JMM-Bradley (1 Fight Later), @ '47, Doesn't???... 2. JMM's Prime was 126, Not '30...Floyd Had Success @ '35, '40, '47 and '54, but No One Will Tell You His Prime WASN'T '30...JMM's Prime was '26... 3. Are You Saying Tank Davis ISN'T a More Talented and Dynamic Fighter Than Tim Bradley???..."Fighting Alike" is Irrelevant to the Point...It's No Different than the Hagler-Chavez Debate on the General Forum; Tank Has MORE TOOLS Than Bradley...Bradley's the Naturally Bigger, Stronger Man, Yet Tank STILL Punches HARDER in REED's Opinion...They Have Similar Bodytypes Also... Considering Tank is More Talented and Dynamic it's NOT Out of the Realm of Possibility That he'd Be Able to FIND and DISENGAGE from JMM Quicker and More Efficiently than Bradley Did... REED
i dont consider the 4th pacquiao fight or the bradley fight at all when discussing a 130lb fight between marquez and davis.
I never thought I would find myself defending Tim Bradley, but Tank has yet to prove he's on Bradley's level. The only thing we can say for certain is that Davis is a bigger puncher than Tim.
I think Tank is a great young fighter, i just think we have to wait and see sometimes when at the baseball fields with kids, i'll see a kid who looks spectacular, a kid that hits better than everyone else, or throws twice as fast.. thing is at every baseball field complex there will be a best kid and the best of the best of the best MIGHT go on to play ball later in life. Tank looks good, great even.. but it's early to compare him to HOF guys like JMM without the body of work thus far, you'd have to say Tank would be washing cars in Washington DC within a week of the fight
"Great" is still waayyyyyyyy premature for Tank. The kid's resume is still trash. I have serious doubts he's ever gonna be a "great" fighter. I just don't see it. He's very talented though, that's a more accurate description.
