Ike would have a nice start, and then get caught with a monster shot. After that, Jackson would get him outta there. He was just a freakish puncher.
I liked Ike, he looked like a KILLER against lower tier guys.. great fight with Tiger Jones against top tier he wasn't on the level.. and I mean against the very top level Jackson I think was good too but he had a better equalizer and would send Ike to GROWING GRAPES IN GHANA in a week!
The PROBLEM w/This Matchup is Ike Took PRIDE In His Chin, Which Seemed Absolutely Warranted Until the Jose Luis Lopez Fight...Ike (Barely) Survived That, Then We Saw DeLa Drop Him 2wice, Flirting w/a 12th Round Stoppage... Ike Wasn't a "Take 2 to Land 1" Type of Fighter by ANY Stretch, But he ATE His Fair Share of Shots in Every Single Bout, Which Would Be His UNDOING vs. an Even Better Puncher than JL Lopez and DeLa Were... REED
In fights such as this I find it important to note that fighters try to vary their style, based on their opponents. Quartey did get hit but here, knowing he is up against Jackson (and what happened with Lopez), he would definitely try to be extra careful, compared to his usual approach. The question is, is it enough, does he have the ability to adapt. Personally I don't think so, Jackson would smash him
It wouldn't matter. Jackson landed on every opponent he ever faced. He had very good technique, and accuracy, as well as fast hands. Ike ain't gonna be a defensive wiz no matter what approach he takes.
Ya know, jab aside, Jackson actually had more skill than Ike. There was very little variation in Ike's game - I.E. he didn't attack the body enough, and his technique wasn't the best (outside of his beautiful jab). Jackson had a more varied attack, and also had better lateral movement. Moreover, honestly... I think Jackson also had a higher ring IQ than Ike.
