Who's the worst fighter who managed to have a long title reign (around 10 defense)??

I think Felix Sturm should be in the discussion. Never really beat anybody who was elite, and needed robberies to get past some very average opposition.

While i like the guy, Joppy probably deserves a.mention. but I'm sure they are better examples than the 2 guys i mentionned

In the early 20th century, Al McCoy was notorious for exploiting the "no-decision" rules to keep a stranglehold on the MW title. He was usually outfought in the majority of his fights, but his defense and chin enabled him to avoid being KO'd for years until Mike O'Dowd finally did the trick.

In the modern era, I'd say Chong-Pal Park. He was the first ever super-MW champ I believe, but the division was a wasteland of LHW has-beens and MW never-wases in its early years.

    Good question.

Depends on what we mean by 'champion' of course - I wouldn't call Sturm a champion by any stretch - and also if we try to evaluate the fighter's abilities or just his achievement.

Dariusz wasn't the poorest of champions but had a really poor record of defenses. Same with Patterson.

As for long-term champions with little ability, Virgil Hill is one

Yeah, 168 was putrid in the 80s. Wasn't until the Toney/Benn/Eubank/Collins era of the 90s that the division established itself. Then of course, Roy became the first true star and great fighter at 168.

In Chul Baek also held a 168 title in the 80s, and has a stoppage win over Park.

Baek was decent - a heavy handed, crude brawling type.

Probably best known for getting destroyed by Jackson for the title at 154 - Julian's best overall performance, really.

Going deep in history, Tommy Burns must be among the worst considering the amount of defenses

I dunno how many defenses Spadafora had, but he has to rank among the weakest long reigning lightweight champs.

Doesnt qualify. Specified that you need around 10 defenses to qualify

Both of Hopkins' co-champions prior to his unification, Joppy and Holmes, were long-reigning but pretty forgettable. I think Holmes was the weaker of the two.

    Nah, Joppy was weaker.

Keith Holmes was a quality fighter.

A skilled southpaw with a lot of power in his right hook.

He did as good a job on Oscar as Floyd did and got robbed. He also didn't lose to Macklin like the British TV said he did.

He's got more names on his record than you'd think.....

Frankie Liles is the guy you're looking for anyways.

For me - and this may be just a personal view - but the worst long serving would be Gianfranco Rosi. Made about 12 defenses of his IBF jr. middle title and bored me to tears throughout his reign. Largely defended against no real names (although a couple would sneak in there) and they almost all would go the distance and follow the same monotonous path everytime. So, although he was apparently successful, I would call him out on being an insufferably boring fighter.

You will be delighted to hear that not only had I never heard of him, but whoever drew up his Wikipedia page has confused him with a movie director of the same name .
