I don't know if anyone follows amateurs or Olympics anymore. If you do, now it is time to stop. In 2024 Olympics there will be 60 male fighters less than there are in Tokyo games, and only seven weight classes. This is because they want to make room for females, who will have as many boxers as men, despite the sport being much smaller. Practically this will mean more corruption in the qualification tournaments and more medals for the countries who pay up for AIBA. Goes to show that one sanctioning body is not necessarily any better than 15 of them. They have been able to ruin the sport with ridiculous rule changes
The good that will come from this is now guys will have to turn pro sooner - talking to you guys, Loma and Rigo.
The International Olympic Committee's pursuit of urban events to lure a younger audience This is something you'd expect to read from The Onion.
Simultaneously, the IOC Is Ignoring the FACT USA Boxing is Almost Strictly an "Urban Event"...Very Few Rural or Suburban Youth Bother to PURSUE Boxing, in America... REED
I have no idea if break dancing is big enough of an event to be included in the Olympics. At the highest level it is definitely physically challenging enough, but it could have the same problem as snowboarding has, which is that the best athletes don't care about the Olympics. Also, IOC should have booted boxing altogether and thus forced some changes
I'm not a fan of "sports" where people do rehearsed artistic routines. Sure it may take some athletic talent to perform, but so do plenty of activities. Often times these dancers/artists or whatever you want to call them have their own competitions anyway. Ballroom dancing has competitions that doesn't mean it should be included in the Olympics. Women's boxing is more appropriate for the Olympics than breakdancing but clearly bullshit is going on to cut so many spots from men to make room for it. Future Olympic "sports": Hot Dog Eating Free Style Rap Hopscotch Ya know, because it "appeals" to whatever demographic.
@ It's ROOTS, Breakdance Battles Were "Judged" By CROWD RESPONSE... Similar to Snowboarding, You're LOSING Something from Breakdancing CULTURALLY, By Opening Up the Possibility of it Being Judged ala Gymnastics or Figure Skating....Breakdancing Isn't THAT Type of Endeavor... Rest Assured, Ol' School, NYC B-Boys WON'T Be Celebrating a 3x Breakdancing Gold Medalist Anytime Soooon... REED
