This topic was inspired by the Khan/Locche mythical matchup. What are some others you think fall into this category? In which you'd possibly pick the inferior fighter over the other because of styles?

Good topic! I'll have to think of some during my work day, because I'm kind of stumped right now.

One example: I think Chavez should be considered better/greater than Pryor, but I would pick Pryor to beat him at 140.

There are plenty where a big puncher can score a KO over a superior fighter, but i avoided those as that's not quite a "styles" thing.

While I wouldn't necessarily bet on it, I could see these ending up in upsets:

    Honeyghan - Forest
    Norris - Benitez
    Wright - Mayweather
    Ward - Toney (168)

With this one I don't know which one would be the upset, but to me Ward is both the better and would win this fight.

I could see Bruce Seldon beating Chris Byrd

    Good topic, as mentioned.

What i'm getting at is Toney was considered P4P #1 in the world at the time and was even the favorite over Jones when they fought at 168. Ward was considered very good but not at that level.

I thought Toney was #2 behind Whitaker, and Ward also was at the top-3 for long.

But yeah, I get your idea. Even though it sucks

I'd pick Michael Nunn over Dick Tiger, even though Tiger was greater/better.

    Same with Nunn vs McCallum

I'd pick Sumbu Kalambay to school Canelo, even though Canelo's considered "greater" (by today's standards, anyway).

I'd likely pick Foster H2H over Spinks at 175, even though I consider Spinks better and certainly greater.

Exact same thing with Foster vs Roy. Roy was better/greater, but I'd pick Foster to KO him.

Ernesto Marcel I would likely pick over Sal Sanchez.

It happens. Mayorga was not better than Forrest, yet beat him twice.

Forrest was not as good as Mosley, yet beat him twice.

Marquez was not as good as Pac, but had the style to give him Hell.

Norton was not as good as Ali, but had the style to give him Hell.

One could even argue that Honeyghan, though not as good as Curry, simply had the style to beat him.

Well if they beat them they were better. Might have not been more accomplished or skilled but head to head were better if they won.

You can argue they were better, but you can be better in several ways. This thread namely asks for "better mainly because of styles"

Angott and Saddler beating Pep, though both were great fighters and Saddler was remarkably lucky not to be disqualified at least once.

Salido bumrushing, hassling , old-manning and fouling Lomachenko before the latter got wise to it too late in the day.

Phillips just repeatedly setting up and flinging hard right hands at Tszyu until he caved under them.

Pastrano edging the very textbook, technically correct and patient counterpuncher Johnson by just jabbing and moving for the 15, though again Pastrano was a talented pure boxer despite being lazy and inconsistent and the decision was a controversial one.

George mentioned Cho and Tokuyama questionably edging the technically excellent, relaxed and one-paced Penalosa in the Penalosa-Gonzalez thread on the matchups forum. Neither were particularly talented or notable fighters but gave Penalosa big trouble just by using their height and reach on the retreat and disengaging from exchanges repeatedly.

I like roy just fine fatty. He's a cool dude. Especially later on in his career when his ego came back down to earth.
