"Easy? You call that easy?" Tito struggled at times in the Vargas fight plus also was knocked down, unlike Chavez who never went down. When he returned to Puerto Rico after the bout, Tito was in tears admitting to the press that was the toughest fight he ever had up until that point in his career and he was so grateful to God that he was able to pull a win.
I don't remember either, but he still had Kathy Duva as a promoter IIRC. Vargas was roided to the gills against DLH. He basically roided himself back into prime form for that one fight. Take away that fight, and I don't think there's ever a time post-Tito where he ever fully displayed his pre-Tito form.
It was in the 9th round. Quartey landed some punches that bloodied (maybe broke?) Vargas' nose and forced him on the defensive, but Vargas never lost his footing and kept firing back. I'd actually argue that this sequence is proof that Vargas did have better punch resistance prior to the Tito fight than after it.
Again, i disagree. Ike wasnt that hard of a puncher at 154. The fact that he stung vargas with pretty much the only good right hand he landed that night, showed, imo, that his chin never was his strong suit. And as i said, bar the riviera fight, those that floored him afterward were all elite punchers
Lampley: Kathy Duva from Main Events is telling Vargas to take the full 5 minutes to recover from the low blow Foreman: Can you imagine a woman is giving instructions? RIP Big George
