Was joking with @whiskey, but actually inspired me to think of a serious matchup. Had these two fought circa 94-95, who wins?
Damn, remember on here circa 02 and 03 when I was really high on Terry Norris? Yeaaaaa.... I used to go back and forth with Cdogg defending him, as Cdogg essentially thought he was a bum . My opinion on Norris has declined over the years. I think Quartey stops him if they fought anytime between 94-96.
I'm sure he did. That pick I can't rock with. Norris was too big for McGirt. Cdogg and I agreed on 95% of things, but the one thing I always got on him for was his ABSURD claim that Marlon Starling was every bit as good as Mike McCallum.
Well, Norris was faster than any version of Quartey, BUT, mid 90s Quartey was quick. Much much quicker than the plodding sloth that fought Vargas in 2000.
Was Quartey ever a jr. MW prior to the Vargas fight? I felt one of the reasons he looked slowed against Vargas was because he wasn't in top shape at the weight.
No, but he was walking into the ring weighing more than Norris. Terry was not a particularly big junior middleweight. I don't think it was the weight that hurt Quartey versus Vargas. It was the inactivity. I truly believe the mid 90s Ike would have spanked Vargas. Even the sloth, inactive Ike took 4 rounds off Nando and hurt him once. A younger, sharper Ike would have definitely improved on that.
Yeah, I think Ike from the De La Hoya fight beats both Norris and Vargas. I'd probably pick Vargas to beat Norris, too.
Everytime an Ike topic comes up, I feel the need to mention the Forrest fight was one of the worst decisions of the last 20 years. Ike won 7-8 of the 10 rounds. How in the Hell did Forrest get that decision?????
Yeah it was really bad. It's not like Vernon was some huge crowd favorite that always got the benefit of every doubt. Perhaps just old time home cooking. Give the decision to the American rather than the foreigner type situation.
