    Finished.

Such a brutal war. I thought Akeem won, and I wish he would have gotten the decision considering what happened to him post-fight.

A must see war for anyone who's never viewed it:

BTW - Quiroga sure did get some questionable decisions. I thought he lost to Akeem, and he got a HUGE gift against Vincenzo Belcastro.

I scored it a draw but noted at the time that I thought Akeem did enough to get the nod.

    I could see a draw.

Two of the judges scored it 116-112 for Quiroga. Disgraceful stuff.

Have you ever seen Belcastro vs Quiroga?

Belcastro won about 8-9 rounds, and Quiroga got the decision.

No, haven't seen that one - sounds like a shocker of a decision.

Watched Paez vs. Dorsey I & II. I felt Dorsey deserved to win both.

I haven't watched either fight in a while, but I remember thinking Dorsey was clearly robbed in the 1st, while the 2nd was genuinely close after Paez came on strong in the later rounds.

Great fight that one. Both men down, the swarmer vs boxer style mash-up, and the highest combined workrate you'll see in a featherweight ring. It does lack the snap/hand-speed/power in each punch to make it genuinely thrilling, but it's absolutely a great fight.

Just watched Mahyar Monshipour vs Jairo Tagliaferro:

Rough, if not one sided fight.

Monshipour was an alllllllll aggression fighter, but defensively as inept as they come.

Watched Vazquez vs Canizales and after reading this thread, also watched Maidana vs. Morales.

Found the Vazquez vs. Canizales fight entertaining but was a little frustrating just waiting for Canizales to let his hands go. In the end, I felt like he never did and as a result, I thought he deserved to lose.

As far as Maidana vs. Morales, was again impressed most of all by Morales' performance. Especially with only one eye. But I can't help but think the outcome would've been different if Maidana had been wearing Reyes gloves. Instead, it looked like they were wearing the Japanese gloves Morales favored.

A funny story about Ftoch vs Kessler II btw.

The supervisor of the bout had agreed with Kessler's corner that he would secretly let them know the scores in the mid of the fight. He had his jacket on, and if Kessler got the lead, he would have removed the jacket.

It turned out not to change the outcome of the bout, luckily

100% agreed on Vasquez-Canizales. Its a fight Canizales definitely would have won had he let his hands go more, but he didn't, and as a result I had Vasquez edging it 7-5.

Have you ever seen Vasquez vs Lora? Thats a very good fight.

Yeah he was good, but you could tell his stamina was being affected to a degree by the weight - he took a lot of time off in later rounds where MAG was banging him up nicely with left hooks.

Oscar had stamina issues his whole career - I guess some of it can be attributed to making weight but not all.

I thought Akeem won 7 or 8 rounds. Haven’t seen it in a long time. Tragic end for both fighters. Quiroga got murdered by a member of a biker gang in an argument over a Scarface poster.

It seems it’s unclear on how Anifowoshe died, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it was brain injuries.

Yeah, I heard about the Quiroga getting stabbed to death over the Scarface poster.

Pointless shit man. So many murders are pointless.

As for Akeem, he almost certainly died from injuries sustained against Quiroga - it's just not clear whether he died following a pro fight in Nigeria, or following training.

Either way, he should have never fought or sparred again, and he defied that advise, and unfortunately paid the price for it.

Speaking of Quiroga, I uploaded his fight with Julio Cesar Borbora months ago. Quiroga got a bad beating, and it was a pretty one sided fight in favor Borboa, but still a brutal, action packed affair:

A rewatch of Sot Chitalada vs Charlie Magri.

A really good, high-paced fight while it lasted. Magri held his own through the first two, but Chitalada's class started showing in the third.

In the 4th, he really beat the Hell outta Magri and opened up a bad cut over his eye. Magri's corner stopped it after the 4th, saving Magri from a beating, which was inevitably coming, as Sot was just getting warmed up.

That Chitalada jab really was a piston.

Shane vs Ceballos was his best performance at lightweight, imo.
