If it's a younger Johnson, who was brawling with the likes of Jimenez, Salazar, Orozco, etc; then I'd pick Gonzalez to outpoint him in a great fight. If it's the more seasoned Johnson who won the title, then I think he'd stop Chocolatito.
Would be an amazing action fight. I would have to favor Gonzalez, though. It’s hard to favor Johnson when his style plays right into Chocolatito’s hands. Both fighters would hurt the other, but Gonzalez was steadier and more refined offensively and defensively. Especially in close quarters, which is where most of this bout would take place. If Too Sharp didn’t make the right play and get on his bike once it became apparent who the better man was, I think he’d get knocked out. I’m not sure he had it in him to do that, though. I think he goes out on his shield in the 10th.
Good breakdown. I previously favored Too Sharp, but in recent years, I too now believe Choco has the edge.
Great great match up. I'm one of those that used to think that Johnson would have the upper hand due to his hand speed, power, and athleticism. But now I would have to favor Chocolatito due to his better offensive tools and in-fighting skills, and also his more proven resume. Although Too Sharp thrived on getting into scraps I think he might be outgunned and overwhelmed against the more technically efficient swarmer.
