I think I made this matchup recently, but whatever, I'm too lazy to find it and merge.

Benitez is my 3rd favorite fighter of all time, but I'd pick Gavilan by comfortable decision. He's wrong for Will.

Third? Who's one and two? Duran? Jones? Tyson? Personally, I think Gavilan is all wrong for defensive cuties. He was just so elusive and so quick on his feet with such good technique that he'd always find himself in position to punch. Which is half the battle against a guy like Benitez. And with Keed's large bag of tricks, and ridiculous workrate, I think he overwhelms Benitez.

It'd be such a gorgeous fight though.

The statement I made prompted me to make my top 10 favorites list.

Yes, Tyson and Roy have always been, and will always be my top 2 favorites.

    I love Benitez/Duran about equally.

My favourites are quite clear cut in the order. The top two are clearly above the other three, since they're locked as above them. But I love the other three about equally.

    #1. Charles
    #2. Pops

    #3. Watson
    #4. Morales
    #5. Hagler

Even though he though he faded, it was still impressive how Johnson beat the shit outta Galindez.

Many years ago (over 10) but yes, I have. I had it on VHS. I had Johnson-Galindez on VHS too.

Shows the big gap between a Charles Williams and a Spinks/Mustafa/Saad.

Pops and Prince weren't involved in too many bad fights.

In fairness to Prince, he was still green-ish and a few years ahead of his prime.

But overall I agree, he was basically a poor man's Saad.
