Norris by absolutely devastating KO at 2 minutes and 4 seconds of the third round.

You must be talking about the aged Norris of 97.

I'm surprised you wouldn't favor the 91-92 Norris to stop him at 1 minute 52 seconds.

Norris couldn't KO Gavilan of the late 50s. That'd be the only the version he'd ever take on.

If he did fight the prime version, he'd have the absolute shit kicked out of him.

It's well documented that Gavilan retired decades in advance to avoid facing Terrible Terry.

Look at this statement, Whiskey. He sounds like McDogg reincarnated lol.

I agree though. Gavilan outboxes Terry, outfights Terry, then beats Terry to the canvas.

I hate Norris. If there was ever a poster who assumed the role of chief Norris hater on here, I'll gladly take over.

Shamefully i haven't seen a lot of Gavlilan. I just have a hard time watching old b/w films for a meaningful amount of time to judge properly.

I'm not sure you even have to in this matchup though. Gavilan to my knowledge was never stopped in his career. Yet he went 30 rounds with Robinson at welter. If somebody is going to knock him out it's not going to be Norris.

So you're saying Norris would take it easy on him?

Cdogg held the title of Chief Norris hater on Fightbeat for damn near 20 years.

You have to put in the next 20 to ever catch up with him.

His fight with Gil Turner is now in color.

Gavilan vs Bratton is a great series as well.

Graham and Basilio are unmissable fights too.

He just couldn't get over knowing Norris would obliterate his boyhood crush Buddy McGirt.

Norris would immediately struggle with the fact that Gavilan was faster. Gavilan also has a pretty good edge in height/reach.

    McGirt was only his crush.

Starling was his passionate lover, and Whitaker was his soulmate.

The level of pride and smug I'm feeling over a shit pun about fanboyism and defensive cuties is embarrassingly high.

Seen this one before. I opened up the one X uploaded in another tab and will watch it later. The one thing i recall is kind of how odd it was seeing Gavilan hitting and getting hit. I knew even before i saw footage that he wasn't considered a puncher, but he sure appeared to put mustard behind his shots.

Often had opponents necks twisting and hair flying in reaction but then no after effect. Pretty much the same thing in reverse when he appeared to get tagged with a bomb. A bit Rocky movie like when you see guys unload what appears to be fight ending punches and yet they just resume as if it's routine.

Gavilan wasn't Julian Jackson, but he sure as Hell wasn't feather fisted either.

Certainly not. It's just that he really appeared to be put a whole lot into many of his punches where you would expect more damage. Arc motion, body/hips but then opponents don't even really appear to be hurt given the velocity.

He was a deceiving puncher - not a KO artist, but a sharp and sneaky hitter who could shake opponents and make them respect him.

I think it's an interesting question as to if and how much his power would affect Norris' chin. I would say he's hurt, dropped, and even stopped fighters who've had better chins than Norris.

I wasn't really thinking of Gavilan-Norris in this scenario, just a general observation on keed. Absolutely Gavilan could hurt and stop him. Perhaps the difference in size and weigh-in times could make a difference but i think it would be minimal. Just like fighters strengths are often exaggerated over time so are their weaknesses. Could anybody with a half decent punch just tap the chin and walk away with a knockout? No, but it was still a weakness that can't be ignored.

If it were Gavilan in there instead of Troy Waters, Norris would've been forgotten.
