I'd favor Canizales to gradually break Rose down with his heavier and methodical powerpunching, but that's hard to say definitively without Cani having fought better competition in his career.
I think Rose out-boxes him as well. While a bit more gritty, I think Castillo was a better pressure - and all-round, for that matter - fighter than either Canizales brother, and Rose handled him fairly well. I thought he lost about nine rounds and he was dropped, but even with my card being fairly wide, it was a really close, either-way kinda fight. I feel like he'd be able to out-box Canizales in a similar fashion, in a clearer fight. A little like the Harada fight. Also, I think the clear-cut loss to Junior Jones, even while past prime, revealed a few weaknesses in Canizales' skillset. His cutting off the ring could do with work vs a genuinely elite mover, and Rose was wayyyyyy better than Jones.
Excellent point about Jones. Junior showed that an elite jab goes a long way in disturbing Canizales' rhythm.
With both at their best I would take a peak Rose by decision. Agreed with Rose’s left jab being a key factor to beating Canizales. I think Rose would have been able to pull a similar job to Canizales much like he did against Harada.
