This was a pretty good fight at the Forum and, I think the first time that I saw Medina. He was one of those Mexican fighters that turned pro very young and he developed a style all his own and made it work. I think that, during the 90s, everyone that was a featherweight champion either won it from or lost it to Medina. Sorry that it is in 4 parts.

Yeah, I've seen this before. It was a very good fight.

Medina had such an ugly, but troublesome style. Greatly overachieved for a guy with zero power and not much ability.

I remember Naz dominating and stopping Medina, and he deserves credit for that. One of Hamed's best wins.

Carlos Bolillo Gonzalez is another less famous Mexican former titlist who was fun to watch.

Yeah, Gonzalez was like a very homeless man's Cuevas. Big puncher. I think his most impressive performance was destroying Tony Baltazar in 1.

Bolillo vs Rios would have been fun.

While we're on the topic of underrated Mexican Champs who fought at the Forum, i would mention Juan Jose Estrada.

My good friend trained him for at least a couple fights while he was champion.

Gonzalez blew out a faded Jimmy Paul to win the title. Though Paul was faded, he had never been destroyed like that before.

Up to that point, I was not at all impressed with Gonzalez. I always take an interest in the latest Mexican KO artist and Gonzalez didn't show me much. As I remember the Paul fight, Paul quit pretty abruptly and that made me think that Gonzalez may have hit harder than I thought.

Gonzlaez is still yet to wake up from that hook the 3 time champ iced him with

No, Paul didn't quit. He was getting battered in the 2nd round and the ref jumped in to save him.

Supposedly, Padilla vs. Gonzalez was a great fight, which is how Gonzalez lost his title the first time. But it's not on Youtube.

Medina seemed to always win when he was an underdog and lose when he was favored. I thought he beat Tapia BTW.

That guy was involved in so many title fights. He went up to 130 and lost a title fight to John John Molina in the early 90s. Then back down to featherweight.

I thought he damn near pitched a shut out over Tapia. That was an embarrassing decision.

I've always been a little disappointed in this fight, but only because my expectation was incredibly high. These two throw about 3000 punches each, and I heard they both went down. I figured this would've been one the very best fights ever. When I found it wasn't, I was disappointed. Although like I said, it's my own fault for having such high hopes.

I have not watched Tapia-Medina since it happened, but from my recollection it was a terrible decision, and I can remember outrage on the forum as a result of it.
