Diaz-Ward was a good fight. It was on the Hamed-Sanchez undercard.

Mosley-Mayorga iirc looked they'd had their arms straitjacketed to each other for 11 and three quarter rounds after twenty pints of cider apiece. The last second ko was brutal though.

The rematch was ugly and sloppy, as you would expect from guys in their forties. Mosley stopped him with a body shot.

That was after Mayorga touched Mosley’s GF’s ass at the weigh in. Most likely it was staged. It’s pretty bad when you’re whoring out your GF to try to sell tickets.

I remember it being more of a beatdown than an ugly and boring fight

You're mixing up Diaz's. The Anotonio Diaz that Juarez faced was not related to Julio. Antonio "Tono" Diaz was a junior welterweight and never faced Juarez.

Good example, Tin. Had forgotten about that fight until you mentioned it.

Shane finished Mayorga off with a wicked left hook JUST as the final bell rang.

There's quite a few Ezzard Charles fights at heavyweight like this. Below, too it seems.

It was definitely an ugly fight. Mayorga was never lets say ... technically polished but Mosley was unusually sloppy in that one as well. Mayorga won a surprising share of rounds and Shane looked much better in multiple fights afterward so it wasn't just the "shotness" factor. Perhaps Mosley saw what De La Hoya did to him and figured it would be easy work.

I remember that Black Beauty maintained for years that Mayorga would give Shane a "career ending beating".

What's funny about that Mayorga fight is that he had all the trouble in the world with a washed Mayorga, whereas fighting the #1 WW in the world right after that fight in Margarito (who also fights in a seek and destroy mode), and Mosley beat the holy hell out of him in one of the most one-sided squash matches of are times

Mayorga was naturally larger than Mosley or Margo by that time, and even past his prime was a much more dynamic and unpredictable style of fighter than Margo. Also, I think Margo may have weakened himself making weight for Mosley (I believe it was the last time he ever fought at WW).

Not a high profile bout, but James Butler vs Bryant Brannon was an absolute bore before the ko

I would add to that Mayorga destroyed Six Heads Lewis at a time when Six Heads was highly hyped.

Prime Mayorga would be a factor at 147 today. He was much better than the bums Crawford is feeding on.

Vernon Forrest (RIP) beat the man(Mosley) that beat the man(Delahoya) only to lose to a chain smoking Mayorga. You couldnt make this stuff up. Lol Its safe to say there was no dominant 147 champion at that time. Imo Crawford and Spence would match up quite well with guys from that era. Its nice to reminisce about the good ol days but I wouldnt get carried away. That 147 title was passed around more than Amir Khans exwife.

One of the biggest upsets in boxing. Mayorga played up that villian role well lol.

He also gave a very good fight to Cotto. I'd like to see him against Spence and Crawford. Would be some good close fights imo.

I figure he'd lose to both, but neither Spence nor Crawford has the firepower of Trinidad/DLH.
