Was Prime Marvin Hagler the most unbeatable MW?

What's everyone's opinion on Marvelous Marvin in his prime? Was he pretty much close to unbeatable at his absolute best? I can't think of too many MW who would have beaten a peak Marvin outside of maybe Carlos Monzon.

 

Early 80s Hagler vs early 70s Monzon is a very tough call.

 

He is up there for sure.

I'd say Hagler was even more unbeatable than Monzon. Monzon had some close fights in his prime, so I can picture someone doing better than his contenders and pulling out the W (of course those with a chance are a very small group of fighters)

Hagler was so versatile that he seemed to be able to handle any approach. Bernard Hopkins was similar

 

Hagler at his best right here. Just so well rounded and complete with this performance. Leonard would have stood no chance against this Hagler and he knew it.

 

It’s hard to compare him to earlier greats given how frequently they fought. Did they get beaten occasionally because of the sheer volume of fights they’ve had combined with the quality of their opposition or they were simply more beatable? For example, I wonder how unbeatable a guy like Ezzard Charles would have looked if he fought in the modern era? I really don’t know. But compared to fighters that fought under comparable conditions, Hagler is certainly close to the top, if not at the top.

 

For the record, I'd favor both Hagler and Monzon over Hopkins.

Beyond all the intangibles looking at Hagler in terms of attributes like boxing skills, power, chin, stamina etc. he's well above average in many categories and 10/10 in others.

Nobody is unbeatable of course but I don't see anybody dominating Marvin. Even if you could beat him sans controversy it would still be close and the winner would probably prefer every other avenue than a rematch.

FFS I still can't believe that Stafford claimed for years that Hagler vs Golov is a 50-50. LOL!

I cannot stress how much I'd enjoy Terry Norris vs Marvin Hagler.

 

Kid Dynamite had a lot of unusual views, but he was a good dude. I bought a few VHS's from him, including a collection of prime Michael Spinks fights. It was the first time I had got a real look at light heavy Spinks, as this was pre-YT.

 

Basically the way I see it.

I can envision scenarios in which the most exceptionally talented/well-rounded MWs could beat him (i.e.: Robinson, Monzon, maybe even Hopkins) but I wouldn't make any of them a confident favorite, if even a favorite at all.

I think I might give Roy Jones in 94’ the best chance over early 80s Hagler than any one else I’ve seen. Him and obviously peak Monzon
