Would be a fun fight to see, if only for the height difference. I don't think Chico is without a chance
Chico has a puncher's chance, but its a pretty uphill battle. And I'm probably the forum's biggest Corrales fan. DeJesus was too good a technician and too good a counterpuncher - a counterpuncher with power. Sure, he was overwhelmed by the size of Cervantes, but I dont think i have to state the obvious in saying that Corrales wasn't Cervantes.
I think DeJesus is smart enough to not get into a machismo contest with this guy. He'll probably box Corrales and only step in to get off quick bursts and then get out. He's just of a much higher level than Casa and Popo. I've seen DeJesus vs Guts, Cervantes and all three Duran fights. I feel like I haven't seen enough though, because I always falter when I imagine how his style gels with other fighters.
Steven's usually dependable durability would definitely be pushed to the limit. And Corrales had a habit of hurting guys who previously hadn't really been hurt.
DeJesus is a tough fighter to accurately assess IMO. It's easy to think that a fighter who beats TBE at a particular weight must be capable of replicating that success against almost anyone else at the weight, but boxing doesn't always work that way - just look at Randy Turpin in his post-Robinson career, for example. I think Corrales presents some unique challenges (physical advantages + one-shot KO power) that DeJesus may not have definitively proven he could overcome in his career, even with a win over Duran.
I'm not sure Corrales beats Guts, whom DeJesus whitewashed to win the title. Also, without checking BoxRec, doesn't DeJesus also hold a win over Peppermint Fraser?
Yeah, he does. Fraser was about six months removed from the Cervantes rematch. He's got the wins over Lampkin too.
