Hearns vs Monzon

Monzon knocks him out late, especially if we're talking the Monzon from the first Benvenuti fight, who was more aggressive than the older, more methodical Monzon of the mid-to-late 70s.

 

Yeah, I think Monzon stops Hearns. I think it's entirely arguable that Monzon was both better and bigger.

 

I dunno if he was "bigger."

Tommy had those unbelievably broad shoulders that allowed him to carry 175 very well. I kinda doubt Monzon could ever carry 175.

Monzon was a lot physically stronger than Hearns, however.

 

Bigger in the sense that Hearns peaked at a lower weight.

 

Im.in the minority, but id go with hearns. If he fights a good methodical fight, i don't think Monzon gets to his chin

 

Far lesser guys reached his chin.

Tommy was never a defensive wiz.

 

I have no doubt if Roldan and Barkley can find Tommy's chin, so can Monzon. I hate when people paint Monzon to be this search and destroy type fighter, but he did often transition into that kind of guy in spurts. I have no doubt that he'd have felled Tommy with the barrage he threw at Napoles in the last two rounds.
