Fights Where A Guy Was JUST Getting Back Into It When.......

I was watching Norris vs SRL... i actually thought Leonard had lost by late stoppage so watching it again i couldnt help thinking that he was doing really well and on the verge of just catching Norris, with the usual results. But its all based on an expectancy of Norris falling apart, with the benefit of hindsight, rather than really feeling Ray was coming back into it.

 

Ruddock Morrison. Tommy had angood start but was getting his ass whooped till that hail mary, early stoppage left hook

 

I think Ruddock could have carried on and won even AFTER the knockdown....

 

I thought Alfredo Angulo had managed to slow Canelo a bit and was starting to be competitive in the rounds when a big punch by Canelo spurred the ref to jump right in and stop it.

 

They did the same in the Ryan Rhodes fight but for different reasons- Rhodes had been beat up years ago by Otis Grant and Jason Matthews- relative nonentities, especially Matthews- and there could be no question of Rhodes going the distance with this young killer. So they stopped it. No reason, no reason better than any other round of the fight, other than the Fat Ginge needed a stoppage for his rep and the hometown fans.

He was a beautiful technical boxer.

 

And mind you, Ruddock was never the same again after taking a brutal beating from Tyson in the rematch, then getting wiped out by Lewis.

I think pre-Tyson Ruddock would have mopped the floor with Tommy's face.

Benn-Barkley. After Benn started out fast and dropped Barkley (+ hitting him while he was down), Barkley then rocked Benn badly and had him back on the ropes for about a minute or so. Then, with about 30 seconds left in the round, Benn dropped Barkley twice (+ hitting him again while he was down), which forced an auto stoppage on the 3-KD rule.

Might have been Mikes last great effort. Ruddock went on to get a vasectomy and complications from that caused his title shot vs Vitali to fall through in 2000. Byrd stepped in....

 

Ruddock had that uncanny ability to quickly recuperate, even after he was seemingly out. Terrible stoppage by referee Ron Lipton here, especially considering Ruddock was in control and had Morrison on the ropes right before.

 

No what i think he means is that Ruddock was just getting back into it when Tommy caught him with an absolute wondershot.

 

He wasn't, he was basically in control the whole fight save from a couple of flurry here and there

 

Well ok then. Ignore the punch and focus on the scared referee... Morrison was on the verge of blowing himself out when the ref saved Tommy.....

 

Yeah it was really strange. Absorbed massive bombs, hit the canvas hard and then gets up appearing to be no worse for wear within seconds. It's almost like the moment a referee was in front of him counting it had the effect of smelling salts.

 

This is it. So maybe he was just more into it than ever, now that Morrison had done his worst to no obvious effect........but then the referee robbed him.

Or.........maybe Morrison was about to send Ruddock to the infirmary.
