All the fans and clubs who are opposed to this awesome new idea of a Super League are lazy stupid people who expect handouts. Skip out on a few of your soy lattes and you could be part of the prestigious club instead of being a jealous hater who leeches off the people that worked hard to get to the top.

We've had UNLIMITED foreign money and foreign players. Now people are outraged that the national character of the sport has been undermined. Well I never.

I was certain you were going to respond to something about Neville. I am not a fan. I am not familiar with most of his commentary. I don't get Sky Sports here. But I agree with his rant today.

But that's just it. Its a rant. The Champions League, since 1993, has been evolving into a Super League which runs parallel to the domestic leagues. He played in it. Now jes upset. He's there to play a role.

Obviously some overdo it, some go with narratives provided to them etc. No matter what it is no TV network is going to hire somebody whose reaction is "Meh, it is what is".

Ideally everyone would encourage the move, and the moment it starts boycott the hell out of it. No safety net, no returns. Go to billionaire island fuck off and die.

Oh I agree. It's out of control. But its totally expected. The clubs are basically corporations throwing their weight around same as Amazon etc.

But Keane and friends profited massively from this curve. And now?

The quiet part out loud..... "Speaking on Sky Sports"....the hilarity of it all. I can't think of a name more synonymous with money grubbing expansionism.

Of course its a fucking big sham.

The thinking now is that its all being done to screw money out of UEFA as part of a negotiating ploy.

And all the angry fans will then demand that be spent on new players.

You're concentrating too much on the pundits and their hypocrisy. It's irrelevant at this point as they've cashed in.

For me, it's the opposite- they've cashed in, now they want the cashing in to stop :Jest:

I think we're just in a sort of financial thermal runaway, really.

    It's a footballing Chernobyl.

We've pulled out the rods too fast and now the game has a mind of its own.

We can't stop what we've started.

I am not proud of what Liverpool did, at all.

Could there be an upside? Possibly.

British football might be stronger for the absence of the big 6, you'd have teams like Leicester or Everton or West Ham who might fancy winning the league.

Who knows. But one things for sure: "It's a big club, and we ain't in it".

In that comparison, you're severely underplaying the obvious. This isn't LIKE a Super League. This is it and six English teams are currently planning on leaving the Premier League. Their players no longer eligible to play in the WC or the Euros. This is some heavy shit that will impact all aspects of English football from here on out. The Prem have contacted all twenty clubs telling them, if they're involved with this, walk away immediately.

Football has consumed itself and I'm done with it now. Don't get me wrong I'm well aware that the Premier League basically kick started this so it doesn't have much of a moral high ground but this is the final nail. It's essentially the death knell for QPR and clubs of a similar stature.

The notion of watching an extended league table version of the low stakes early rounds of the Champions League, with teams like Porto as your West Brom and Ajax as Sheffield Utd...yuck fuck that

The Prem is itself a breakaway movement. It came about because they the clubs threatened to leave the Football League unless they got a bigger share of the profits/revenues

What stopped a breakaway in the full sense of the word was the stance of the Football Association, without whose imprimatur any breakway league would basically be a pariah organization.

In the short, medium and long term, this meant the establishment of a "Top 4" of Ushited, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea which to a great extent has remained intact since a quarter of a century.

So the breakaway Premier League is threatening all and sundry about the sinfulness of breaking away. :Jest:

FIFA will decide who does and doesn't play in the World Cup. UEFA is merely a subset of FIFA.

Again, I don't agree with the idea. But you've got a breakaway organization threatening people about breaking away.

They started this. They turned it into a money racket, now the money racket is eating them and they want to complain.

The PL knows they won't be getting $4bn from Sky for TV rights. That's why they are kicking up.

And UEFA knows the Champions League- if it survives- becomes a mickey-mouse cup.

Who is going to pay for the rights to the Champions League if it has become the FA Cup of Europe?

    Vested interests, vested interests.

Leicester vs Celta Vigo in the CL final. Tickets £7.99. Live on PPV for £3, free popcorn.

Anyways- for now- I believe this is a leverage exercise, they won't want to lose the imprimatur of UEFA so they'll all settle for some more £££ from the CL- for now.

"World governing body Fifa has previously said it would not recognise such a competition and any players involved in it could be denied the chance to play at a World Cup."

Right. What does FIFA value? £££. World Cups in Qatar and Russia. If FIFA get's its whack they'll sanction it.

Anyways relax. It won't happen- for now. Let's see what Infantino says tomorrow. I bet he has lots of snacks to share out.

Yeah i read about this earlier as well. As far as i can gather right now both sides are playing a game of chicken. Pretty bad timing for FIFA threatening WC bans.

A lot of players and fans don't want to be there any way. If they can do it under the guise of "human rights" they can make it appear as if it were a boycott on moral grounds instead of greed.

Curious that PSG and Man City aren't (reportedly) part of this breakaway group for the moment.

While I find this to be a terrible idea, it gives me a chuckle that FIFA and UEFA are losing their temper over this.

FIFA didn't care that much for national fans when it decided to place the World Cup into a country with no football culture, in the mid of the regular season of all credible leagues. Now, the teams that give them the finger are "destroying football". This is like WBC lecturing promoters for greed

Man City were one of the six English clubs that had supposedly agreed to join.

I wish they'd leave the format alone. They have been making little changes just about every year and most affect the Europa League.

Not entirely his fault but once they went out of Europe and the chance of a top 4 slot faded, I could see trouble.

Needless to say old Fagin Levy has taken the opportunity to do the dirty from under the smokescreen of the Breakway League news.

    Sly.

I think if you had a CTRL-F function for all of fightbeat soccer threads and did "Mourinho Sacked" that you'd get multiple results by now.

He's been effectively sacked twice by Chelsea. Once by Real, United, and Spurs.

He's got no new ideas, his fillozoffy of dour resistance with a strongman up front to snatch the points.......is old.

    He's constantly antagonistic and sullen.

Even Klopp would sooner burst into tears than fight the media.

He's rapidly coming across to me as a sort of a poor mans Clough, he has great achievements with lesser lights and pronounced failures at "bigger names" and he's got his back up all the time.

Oh and he's done very little for years.

    I am the same.

    I don't like the idea.

I like the current format- it has flaws but the opportunities are there to break the mould.

Sheffield United were competing for European places last year, this year they are relegated.

This year, West Ham and Villa are competing for Europe, last year they fought relegation.

Leicester have won the league. Liverpool have broken a drought.

It's IMPERFECT but it is workable- albeit that it is fraught.

However, the likes of FIFA and the PL warning people about this and that.......hilarious.

As part of the move, all 12 clubs are expected to resign from the European Club Association, the body which brings together 246 major clubs, with immediate effect.

Then kick them out of the current CL with immediate effect.

Kick them out right now and pull the four Clubs still in European tournaments. They lose by forfeit.

But they won't do that because it's not about principles, it's about the money.

They've sold rights to people, and those rights involve a tacit understanding that people will get to watch Citeh and Dortmund.

See the utter hypocrisy of it all.

I watched Gary Neville and Tyler today........they really do believe they are some sort of crusading good-guys.

    They started this.
