I got Toney over Fullmer, but I think Tiger outworks Toney.

Tiger ain't Barkley or Charles Williams.

I think Tiger beats Toney on points, and Fullmer is 50-50 - I can see Toney having too much inside/counterpunching skill for Gene, but I can also see Fullmer making the fight too unpredictable and fast-paced for James.

I think Tiger's fight with Hank is a good indicator of how he would've dealt with Toney's bobbing/weaving style of defense.

Fullmer is actually a worse match-up for Toney IMO. I don't buy that Toney devours all pressure fighters and spits them out. In real life, he had plenty of issues when fighters didn't give him space. In two of his finest performances, both Williams and Barkley nullified his offense almost completely when they got too close and in both of them, he didn't have ways of reliably creating space aside from shoving them off. Hell, even in the fights with Sosa and Tiberi, that's what caused him his issues. I don't see him having too much success doing that vs Fullmer, and Fullmer thrived while being so uncomfortably close that the opponent couldn't do anything, but he'd find a way with horrible looking shots. With the skills, unorthodoxy and franticness to massively trouble a still great Robinson, I think he has what it takes to beat Toney at 160. Especially since Toney often looked flat at the weight, and I think it had just as much to do with some fighters not letting him push the pace as it did his weight issues. His stamina wasn't endless, he just paced himself well - something Fullmer wouldn't allow. I think Toney loses a decision here, especially over 15.

The Tiger fight is interesting. His more orthodox, technically proper style is better for Toney, but Dick was just a flat out better fighter. I suppose it comes down to whether or not you think the style advantage Toney has is big enough to compensate for the difference in ability. I don't, based on the potential stamina issues and Tiger showing his ability to deal with Hank's styles so well.
