List instances where a fighter has scored an anomaly of a knockout or a KD, the type that he hasn't replicated since. Usually it is guys who are not big punchers icing their opponents. For example Barkley vs Hearns does not count since Barkley was a KO artist, though usually not on that level. Ali vs Liston II Ottke vs Mundine Martinez vs Williams Hopkins vs De La Hoya
Rafael Pineda vs Roger Mayweather immediately comes to mind here. Roger had won every round, then boom... Pineda ends it. And perhaps the most famous example: Foreman-Moorer.
Tarver-Jones II. Never bought that Tarver was this monster puncher, and that KO was unexpected as fuck. It's the punch that made people think Tarver was this killer.
I witnessed both Tyson-Douglas and Jones-Tarver live. The latter was more shocking. In Tyson-Douglas it was actually exciting because during the fight you knew you could be witnessing a historic upset. When Roy got knocked out it was just BLAM, over. Wtf?
He also went the distance with a middleweight the time before that, and then went the distance with Jones later on, when he was KOed twice in a row before hand. He also failed to stop a man who this muthafucker dropped four times: https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/18451
Are you talking about Reggie Johnson? He was never ko'ed and even a prime Jones couldn't stop him at LHW. I remember back then that many people believed Tarver had the power to put away Jones. People doubted he had the skill needed to land the KO punch. In fact, before the first fight, it was the scenario people privileged for an unlikely upset. So yes, in a way the KO that happened in the rematch was unexpected but Tarver's power wasn't questionned.
Ottke vs Mundine is a great shout. One punch temple finish by a guy who couldn't stop a bus. Fonfara vs Chavez Jr is another. Legit stopped the guy with a left slung out of the southpaw stance.......Fonfara was not a big man or a powerful man and Junior had faced and would face bigger hitters. Yet the unseemly Fonfara did a number on him. Carlos Maussa vs Vivian Harris. Not only did Maussa never score another KO, he never even won another fight. I think Kendall Holt vs Torres is worth a look. Holt got lucky, there was a clash of heads that precipitated it. I don't think anybody had done a number like that on Torres- not even Cotto- and Holt himself never had another win like it.
Maybe but doing a better job {on a guy that already beat him} ........than Cotto? One round, two knockdowns to the bad, I didn't see it coming.
Just watching Maussa again. Fucking ugliest style ever. Literally looks like a guy who never learned to punch properly, he's all over the place, zero fundamentals, no foundation then BANG .........Charlie Z. I was trying to think of who he reminded me of. Charlie Z.
Calzaghe vs Veit? Joe did simply not blast big men out in a round, dropping them repeatedly like he was some sort of a bomber. He wasn't. But he looked it that night.
