Canelo seems like a very direct person. He doesn't talk a lot of unnecessary shit to hype himself up (as many boxers and MMA fighters do) but if someone disrespects him, he's quick to tell them to go fuck themselves.

And when he told the reporter that Oscar only cared about drinking and other things, in his mind it's not shit talk. He's just telling it as it happened.

Canelo didn't drop a bombshell either.

Oscar is one of the most notorious drunks and cokeheads in the sporting world.

A former elite pro boxer can throw punches and has title belts? Was there something for Canelo (or really anybody else for that matter) to learn from this? Pretty sure Alvarez is aware of what it is boxers do and what title belts are.

I used to like oscar. One of his biggest fans. Bought all his ppv events. But yeah now days I cant stand him. Hes such an unlikeable person. He's one of those annoying drunks/druggies. I think the Goldenboy nice guy wholesome persona was just an act. This is the real Oscar. A tool/douche.

He was very disrespectful to JCC after he beat him. He had a mural of him beating Chavez up in his gym. And shortly after that he did an interview with either Ring or KO magazine and he actually said that he didn't want to end up a drug addict like Chavez. He won the fight (and rematch) but couldn't help himself from being an over the top dickhead.

They have done appearances together since then so either Chavez didn't know about those comments or didn't care.

*Morgan Freeman narrating: Little did Oscar know, he would become a bigger drug addict than Chavez.

I don't know what part of the world you're from but if you know your boxing I'm sure you've heard of Genaro "Chicanito" Hernandez. Back in 1995, Genaro was considered a formidable opponent for cross-town rival Oscar De La Hoya. Both grew up in East LA but went to different high schools. Two highly touted fighters put their undefeated records on the line for the WBO lightweight title. Obviously, Oscar was the blue-chip fighter and ended up winning that fight by TKO by breaking Chicanito's nose who could not continue. Years later as a teenager living in Orange County I got my first job at Champs(a sporting goods store). One day Chicanito(Genaro) walked in my store with his gorgeous wife. Now keep in mind Chicanito was an active fighter but not as famous as De La Hoya. I greeted him and asked him if he was Chicanito the boxer. His eyes lit up and with a big smile said yes. The store was pretty empty and we talked about boxing for what seemed like 20 minutes. He didn't have many good things to say about Oscar or Chavez. He said Chavez Sr. talked shit about him quitting and he and his wife laughed when Chavez ended up quitting against Oscar later on. That was the last time I saw Chicanito and many years later I found out he passed away from Cancer. Ironically Chicanito's last fight was against Mayweather at Super Feather and actually gave Floyd Mayweather a very tough fight and even ended up dropping Mayweather (Flash knockdown only)during their fight. When Chicanito died his family was struggling financially and it was Floyd Mayweather Jr. who ended up paying for Chicanito's funeral. I consider myself a floyd hater but I got to respect him he has done some really good things for people. He has a good heart, unlike De La Hoya.

He's talking about general public opinion, not all boxing fans. Mike was in the news a whole lot and quite often not exactly for good reasons. Now add a rape conviction to it. That's outside of the ring. Throw in the ear biting incident, suspension from the sport and the "another black eye for boxing" type rhetoric.

Sure he still had a lot of fans but if he wasn't the most despised boxer who was?

Tyson was definitely the most disliked figure in boxing from 97-02.

Once Lewis beat him and he started acting humble, public opinion changed.

He began showing a lighter side. Going on talk shows, acting in The Hangover, doing commercials, etc. I agree that he seemed to win the general public over again.

i interviewed that fagget back when he got his mexican citizenship and had a press event for it in early 2000s. such a manufactured phony back then. ask him anything and you get a politician type answer. now he is liable to say some ill shit if you catch him on the right night.

You caught him sober and surprisingly I enjoyed this interview. Lately Dela Hoya says a bunch of nonsense but you did a good job at getting him to engage with you. This had to be a couple of years ago when Canelo was still with G B P.

Don't remember the topic where we were discussing haymons impact on the sport whether it be negative or positive for fans, his stable, etc.

But now it's being claimed he wants Alvarez to agree to a 3 fight deal to get the plant fight. Seems like he's not looking out for his fighter (plants) best interest here
