I was just about to say this is high grade shite. Matts Hummels just confirmed that.

Muller being recalled says volumes about the lack of German options.

I had a dream Ronaldo became an MMA fighter. He was fighting blindfolded and still knocking people TFO with kicks.

He was like the Paul bros of MMA. Everyone wanted to see him lose. But even though he fought blindfolded, no one could touch him.

    Strange dream

    His physical talent is evident.

But his relentless appealing, his constant hectoring of officials and desire to have his opponents censured... awful

Winning. When you back Franceto score the next goal and cash it out before the bookies realize its being given as offside

Germany were lucky to only lose by a goal regardless of VAR. France were better defensively and have a lethal counter attack that can be launched out of nowhere.

Umbippy doesn't get the offside rule. Germany have as many teeth as Mad Jacks donkey in Grizzly Adams. Hummels is not World Class. Havertz is fucked without a midfield to do the spadework for him. Leroy Sane never got over his injury. Pogba is #1 contender for Depay/Sterling title of overratedness. Those be my key takeways.

Hummels is OK but even in his younger days kind of a bad idea to put him in a 3-4-3 when you have somebody like mboopi running at him. Pogba is good and then shit. From one game to the next or one half to the next. Not exactly the picture of consistency, but in a stacked team his issues are easier to gloss over.

I watched the match, it was a disappointment but I basically agree, France weren't spectacular but they have so much quality they didn't really have to go above a certain gear. I don't think they're as good as the late 90s/early 2000s France if you're talking about individuals but everyone knows what they're meant to do and they all do it well. I still say Kante is the difference, he's just so good at winning the ball but unlike Makelele he has the vision as well to pick out a great pass and set up an attack. I still maintain he is the main reason Leicester won the league in 2016. Brilliant player, I would argue the best all time in his position to be honest.

There's no real monster sides out there today. Inside of 20 minutes tonight i had a list of criticism about both sides.

The introduction tonight, the narrative, was that these dudes had so many medals between them they melting them down for scrap and using them as paperweights

There's a period in the game before Bumbles kicked it into his own net... They basically took turns losing possession, regaining it, then kicking it away again. Literally took turns :Jest:

I honestly believe the Italy side of 2006 is the last truly great side there was. Possibly Spain in 2008 but that was just the Euros....and they lost in 2010 in their opening game to La Suisse, struggled with Paraguay, Iran too if i recall.

I agree, France best players are just better than Germanys. France take a lead and are lethal because they counter so fast. Roy called it at half time. Germany were always prone to the counter.

I think that to beat France you need a strong tactical element.

Somebody like Greece of 2004 perhaps.

Yeah it's not like France waltzed through it with total ease but like you say they could afford to basically stay in one gear because that one gear was robust and sufficient. Germany's subs were also completely useless.

Spain 2008-2012 are the greatest international side of all time imo and I HATED them, still do, hated the way they played. I found them tedious to watch but all the same they're the best I've ever seen, as weird as that sounds.

I think greatest of all time arguments are hard enough to assess with individual sports. When it comes to teams it's basically a waste of time debating the variables of infinity. Even with that said if we look at the history of football and in particular national teams, that Spanish side(s) is up there somewhere.

I loved them, but nit fir foitball reasons per se, just thought they were fortunate at times. Also worth noting they weren't really one side, Torres up front in 2008 was one style in itself
