It also takes two to tango. Even if you are a "brawler" you can't force somebody to trade. Sometimes boxing is a strategic choice and sometimes there simply is no choice.
Great post. I used to point out to hamed fans when they used the excuse(one of many) that MAB changed his style for the hamed fight when he didnt. All one has to see is the MAB Salud fight to know what style he would employ against hamed. Simply put hamed was one of the dumbest world champions I have ever seen.
Him/his fans figured because Barrera was involved in some wars (and is Mexican) that somehow it would automatically translate into him being an easy target and therefore an automatic knockout. Yeah Hamed was a bomber and perhaps Barrera was a bit more cautious than he might have been against some other opponents, but that doesn't mean he "changed his style". Lol that sort of transformation from one fight to the next simply isn't even possible. “Ali could only fight a couple of ways. I can fight five or six different ways.” ― Naseem Hamed
Barrera was always a calculating boxer. The aberration in his career was the short period of time in which he fought balls out, which culminated in his first loss to Junior Jones. I was there the night he fought in the US for the first time, at age 18 in his 22nd fight. He was always a boxer, with pop and an instinct to finish, until he got on ppvs and fought crazy for a minute.
That was more than just schooled. He was beaten then he got forcefully introduced to the ring corner post from behind.
And before that he got doused with beer when he was coming to the ring on his little Britney Spears hula hoop.
We've been here for over 20 years, bruh... we need to start entertaining the possibility that some posters may have in fact died.
No Clue, But PROPS Where Props Are Due... In the BRIEF History of Boxing Messageboards, Is There a More MEMORABLE Quote Than "Joppy Lost Because of the Ring"???...REED Thinks NOT!!!... REED Ain't Even 100% Sure WHAT Site Qwerty's Signature Post was Left On (70% Sure it was SecondsOut Though), But it TRANSCENDED Sites...Qwerty Could've 1st Said the Shit On East Side and it Wouldn't Diminish it @ ALL in REED's Opinion... "Joppy Lost Because of the Ring" is the Sugar Ray Robinson of Boxing Messageboard Posts... REED
The whole So Cal crew all fucked off at the same time. Free Ike Matchup Analyzer Jaws Jaws' brother (Motor City something or other) Bam Bam aka asight
Motor coty cobra. Easy to remember since it was hearns nickname before he qdipted the hitman one. Anyway, they were probably all the same guy. We should have a tombstone thread.where the name of all posters that are gone is inscribed, to shame them for leaving the best boxing forum on the internet
What's funny is I thought "Motor City Cobra" but I had convinced myself that I was confusing it with "Lone Star Cobra." I met Jaws back in '07 when he and his fiancee came through here. And he and Free Ike appeared in a video together. Free Ike with a shirt over his head because he didn't want to be seen. And Matchup Analyzer was a Hispanic guy who bragged about driving a Mercedes but according to REED, that Mercedes was "so old the numbers were falling off of it."
Asight. Jesus Chirst, that's a name I haven't heard in ages. Anyone know what ever became of Everlast?
Yeah, I treated them to lunch. While he was telling me about his trip, he did say, "I met Double L. He's just a normal guy. A really nice guy from Cleveland." The "normal" part gave me a chuckle. As if people were expecting otherwise. From memory he met us, Nobleart, dsimon, and I think he said phonetap. He claimed that he contacted CDogg & Rabid Kimba but they both gave him the slip. CDogg disputed that.
I guess so. I think his brother was fighting in an amateur tournament or something like that. And he went to some pro fight at MSG (I think he said he went with phonetap.) If it wasn't him, it was someone else from New York. Then up to Connecticut then back across to Cali.
