Sanchez was a better technician, but Monzon was so much better as a ring general that I have to give it him. You could get somewhere fighting the right fight vs Sanchez - as Ford and Caldwell showed - you couldn't with Monzon. Both were very talented, with good power, great chins. Monzon had more power, Sanchez was a lot quicker, but both were excellent physical specimens. I have to take Monzon again, for greatness. The simple reason, is that he didn't die midway through his career. I know it's a cliché to always bring up how much further Sanchez could've gone, it's just that he didn't have the depth you'd need to have a better résumé than Monzon, and definitely didn't have one good enough to account for all of Monzon's years at the top. Wins over Valdez, Griffith, Nino and Briscoe are all more impressive IMO, than wins over Gomez, Lopez and Nelson. Plus, Monzon has longevity that Sanchez wasn't allowed.
