Some fighters just come off meaner than others (I guess it can be subjective). It doesn't necessarily mean they're better or worse. And it's not strictly about punching power either, although malice certainly does manifest in punches with bad intentions. My list is probably shit, but here goes.

    Duran
    80's Tyson
    Liston
    70's Foreman
    Hagler
    Qawi
    PBF
    Trinidad
    McClellan
    Toney

    Quality List Doub...

REED's Own List Might Differ, But the ONLY Fighter He Would Say Doesn't Belong (From YOUR List), is Floyd...Floyd Punched w/SELECTIVE Malice, in REED's Opinion, Especially as he Moved Up in Weight...

DOPE List Beyond That Though...REED Will Come Up w/His Own...

I dont agree at all with Floyd and Tito (to a lesser extent though). I would add Maidana, looked (and fought) like a guy that would cut fools up with a machete in a Bueno Aires slum had he not be a successful boxer

Wilfredo Gomez immediately came to mind and might be the best example. I think he enjoyed hurting his opponents more than Duran.

I get the point about PBF. He often fought safety first but he seemed bit sadistic in the ring at times. Leonard was like that too, even though he wasn't a traditional killer type

Was going to add Benm, too. I'd also suggest Julian Jackson. Not because of his post, but because of his much he seemed to enjoy watching people react badly to it.

  10. meetthefeebles

Ali's vivisection of Ernie Terell was as sadistic and malicious as it gets. His treatment of Fraser wasn't far off, too.

The only time I recall he displayed anything remotely close to a sadistic behavior was vs Gatti.

Great call on Kovalev (well the younger version, not the older pawing one). Mayorga to me seemed more if a wild horse than malicious

Yeah Mayorga talked like one but that was more bravado and promotion. In the ring he wasn't often particularly vicious, more so reckless as that was simply his style and skillset.

Sadistic was a poor choice of words by me. It suits Leonard but not Floyd.

However the way Floyd attacked Ortiz, how he humiliated Marquez and laughed at Manfredy, along with the Gatti torture, indicates that he had a mean streak in him, despite all his finesse

Leonard wasn't sadistic per say. He just had insane killer instinct once he smelled blood, there's a difference.

Leonard is more Tyson than he is a sadistic guy like Duran and Gomez.

Leonard and Tyson weren't in there to prolong punishment if they didn't have to. If they got you in trouble, they wanted to finish you right there and then.

Yeah, Laguna was a tough guy. And speaking of Laguna, Buchanan was also very tough and mean for a slickster.

I'll never forget what Foster said to Brian Kenny one time when he was the guest in the Friday Night Fights studio. "Sometimes, I just hated guys."

Foster was a cold dude. I heard that after he KO'd Quarry he said something to effect of: "Well, guess he's dead."
