I think Floyd in the top 10 is absurd. Sure he had a few performances where he seemed to enjoy hurting his opponent, but he has a ton more where he was happy playing tag with them

Floyd Had a 50% MALICE Rate @ Best, in REED's Opinion...

If You ONLY Count His Fights @ '30, REED Still Wouldn't Agree, Yet Wouldn't ARGUE Floyd's Inclusion on a Top 10 List...But His Days @ '35, '47 and '54 DIMINISHES His Overall Level of Sheer MALICE, Undoubtedly...

Only Had 3 Bouts @ '40, But Gatti and Corley were Among Them; 2 High Contact Fights...Sooooo in Fairness, Floyd FOUGHT Maliciously @ '30 and '40, But That Only Constitutes About HALF of His Career...

Floyd Had SELECTIVE Malice...No Fighter Has a 100% MALICE Rate, But 50% Ain't NEARLY Enough in REED's Opinion Either...

"Sweet Pea" Whittaker's MALICE > Floyd Mayweather's malice

Id say he was also pretty malicious against Mosley, but as you said, very few and far between

Mayweather Jr would beat the dog shit out of sparring partners. 5 minute rounds vs guys who were clearly gassed

    Crawford qualifies

Speaking of treating sparring partners, Marco Huck was a dickhead. He used to rabbit punch his sparring partners and butt them, knowing they couldn't retaliate since Huck had a fight coming. Also inside the ring Huck was a mean, dirty guy.

Herbie Hide used to knock his sparring partners out in quick fashion even though the whole idea usually is to go rounds and prepare yourself

Being a sparring partner has to be one of the shittiest "jobs" possible. I'm sure it's great for young prospect types as they're gaining invaluable experience.

For veterans you're just getting abused for peanuts. Makes you wonder why some of the bigger names do it. If you're thought of as at least good enough to give the star guy enough of a workout to justify getting paid, surely you could make a lot more in actual fights.

That is true if you can find a promoter, but for a semi-good guy with a dull style it can be tricky. If you are able to get two fights a year, you need to do something in the spare time. Robert Helenius has been such guy: he is good enough to spare anybody, but didn't find a promoter in years.

Also, sparring keeps you somewhat in shape and prepared if you catch the lucky break and get s good fight on a three weeks notice.

For a related point, there are also guys who can look supremely good in the gym but can't quite deliver on the same level in real fights. Jesse Ferguson was described like that, as is Carlos Takam
