I'll paraphrase the things I heard on that Podcast, things I read elsewhere and some that I had already known.

GnR had become one if the biggest bands in the world by around '90. And Axl was known for trying to be seen as not your avg rock star. He wore an NWA hat when it wasn't really cool for rock and rap groups to mix. He hung out with depeche Mode for a day (still not sure how that came about.) Anyway when Nirvana were still unknown, Axl either caught one of their shows or heard their demo and decided to be a fanboy of this unknown band. He contacted Cobain several times to hang out. He wanted to take him to Hollywood parties. He wanted to introduce Cobain to other rock stars and show him the ropes. Though most up and coming musicians would jump at the chance to hang with one of the biggest rock stars in the world, Cobain never accepted which annoyed Axl.

And then someone in the press got wind of the situation and asked Cobain about it. He said something like, "I think Axl is a racist, sexist, misogynistic, ignorant redneck. He's everything I'm against."

Of course, then it was on and Axl burned the Nirvana hat and all that. Cobain doubled down by saying "You can't be a Nirvana fan and GnR fan. They're everything we stand against. And if I have anything to do with it. I'd like to retire them and bands like them to the boneyard."

And then came the back and forth in the press. When Axl called Kurt and Courtney heroin addicts and unfit parents. Then the MTV award show incidents. First the incident with Love asking Axl to be their baby's Godfather backstage and then the Nirvana performance where Grohl came up to the mic and kept repeating "Hi, AXL!"

Some GnR band members scuffled with Grohl and Novacelic when they came off stage. And a shirtless Axl tried to go back and get into Kurt & Courtney's trailer to fight Kurt.

BTW, Novacelic was already punch drunk coming off stage. He had thrown his bass guitar in the air at the end of the performance and when he went to catch it, it hit him square in the face. So when he stumbled off stage, GnR bassist, Duff McKagan added to it with another punch while Dave Grohl was wrestling with another of their members (I can't remember if it was Izzy or Matt but it wasn't Axl or Slash.)

Hahaha yep, the Novoselic bass toss fail is an iconic moment.

Weirdly, McKagan was one of the last people to see Kurt alive. Cobain had just escaped from rehab and they were on the same flight back to Seattle. McKagan said he could tell he was in a bad way and was going to offer to have him crash over but by the time he turned to find him at the airport Kurt had already left. Novoselic and McKagan are good friends now I believe.

Yeah. They talked about them on the flight together back to Seattle on the podcast. Hell, you may already know most of the things from that Podcast.

The rivalry underscores another reason Nirvana really stood out. With the exception of Metallica, who had finally gotten mainstream radio and video play with the Black Album, hair bands ruled the rock scene in America. And it was an attitude of "We kick ass, we rock hard, we party hard, drink, smoke, do every drug there is and fuck tons of bitches every night!"

And that got replaced with guys like Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder.

Irish won't like this reminder but that was probably the early stages of the woke/PC movement. :Jest:

Nah I don't see things that way. Liverpool played a pre-season friendly vs Blackpool a couple years back. Came from 2-0 down to win 7-2 and I raged every fucking minute of it.

    There's no boring.

I'd rage if we were 9-0 up and let in a softy.

Don't be shocked if Norwich get their first victory tomorrow. Everton are putting out a skeleton crew again.

I don't think, in my entire time watching football, I've ever seen a team score in the first couple of minutes and go on to win 1-0. When we started sitting back inviting pressure I knew it would end badly. Feel sorry for Dieng, it was a horrible mistake but he's a fantastic keeper and made a great save earlier in the match. Guess that's the tightrope you walk as a goalkeeper though.

I never noticed but do British people say "yup" and "nope?"

And if yes, have they always said it or do they say it because of US slang?

I was watching an episode of Alfred Hitchcock presents. The episode when a young English girl gets kidnapped and then escapes. She was trying to get back over the US-Mexico border but had to pretend to be American. The guy with her was coaching her on how to sound more American. He told her to say "yup" & "nope" instead of yes & no.

    Yeah good question.

Presumably the Chelsea game was brought forward to make sure the police weren't too stretched for too much of the day with the Joshua fight on tonight about 10 miles from London.

Edit: it's actually the United game that's been moved. There's a cricket game on today in the same part of Manchester.

I hate Solsjkaer. He's such a subtle fucking whiner.

Earlier in the week he says that the reason United don't get penalties is because of Klopp :Jest:

Then they get one and MISS and he says its because people are interfering with Bruno.

Then he says the goal was offside.

Typical Liverpool taking the edge off an otherwise great afternoon for us.

But last year we probably lose that game, so, fuck it
