What really.killed.him was the last second ko against McCall, in a fight he was winning handily

 

This and he also lost his big chance vs Holyfield due to hepatitis

 

A bit sad in fact, would probably be a dominant champ if he was fighting in this era...

The last anyone heard from Akinwande, he was supposed to fight Holy circa 98, but got sick and pulled out shortly before.

I think as a result Holy fought Vaugh Bean instead.

 

Last I saw of him was the McCall loss on the Lewis-Rahman II undercard.

 

Lol, and how exactly do you think stiffs like Wilder and Joshua would have looked vs prime Lewis??

In autumn of 1999, Boxing Monthly had a picture of Michael Grant on its third page. In the picture Grant sat on canvas with a grin on his face (Golota fight).

The caption said (paraphrasing) "Michael Grant takes a moment as he realizes that even though he is not very good, he still is one of the best heavyweights of the moment and as a result of that will make millions"

The obvious implication was that the era of Lewis, Holy, Byrd, Tua, Akinwande, Moorer,Hide etc. was not too good.

 

I remember that magazine. It is defunct now. I remember that episode too.
