You have to think if wilder got with a legit trainer when he was 8 years old he'd be a problem. His innate lack of coordination probably prevents him from being an all time great but his toughness and natural power are there with more craftiness
Yes. But he'd need to have matured mentally too. He's really a gigantic powerful adolescent. The question is whether a real trainer would have tolerated him for long enough. Manny Steward threw people out for having "the profanity tape" (rap) in his gym. Atlas, who couldn't train a dog to have fleas, wouldn't wear his shit.
In this fight that just happened ? Either way these 2 beatings ruined the guys brain On another note I didn't read thru this whole thread but the second kd on fury was rubbish
Really good fight with Fury making harder work of it than he need have. Credit to Wilder for sticking in there and landing some surprising shots in the latter rounds when he looked like he was about to keel over, but to be honest he was outclassed again and beaten up for the most part. Round 1 was his, and of course he had a brilliant fourth (albeit the second knockdown was a bit of a rabbit punch). Outside of that I saw no reason to give him anything. After he abandoned those body jabs from the first round it was the same old Wilder; no inside game, no defence and gassed much quicker than Fury as we all expected.
For sure! Pro-move in super high pressure situation. That takes massive confidence. Most boxers continue doing anything to avoid getting decked, but it’s those moments on wobbly legs when they take the most horrific shots. As soon as Fury realized he had noodles holding him up he smartly dropped down.
I think he realised that jab to the body was too hard. Guys like Hearns could snake it out like a tongue, but Wilder was driving it out, really committing. It's hard work for 6'7" guy to keep it up and Fury was leaping back and not buying the ploy.
Fury was half looking for somewhere to lie down, half floored. He's so leggy when he's hurt. And he always looks like a drunk waking up in unfamiliar circumstances, like "Hey, whose house is this, who's she, wheres my trousers" He never looks truly out of it. He looks like somebody who slept in and missed the bus and knows he's getting fired.
For sure. His right hand is so devastating when he throws it straght down the middle. That's how he got ortiz and almost got Fury in the 4th. But the rest of his game is not good enough for him to get the space and angle to land it this way often. Most of the time h'es looping with it making it much more predictible, and probably even less powerful. If he had a nice jab, left hook, and better footworks, he's probably among the best ever. But then, if my aunt had balls...
I can't think of a 3 fight series where a guy scored 4 knockdown and didn't win a single one of the fights. The only 3 fight series I can think of where a guy didn't win any of the fights were Bronco McKart vs Winky Wright and Howard Winstone vs Saldivar.
In fairness, the right hands he landed in the 4th were down to Fury. There's no way, by that stage, that he threads that needle without Fury's direct complicity in affairs. That really was his window. In three fights he had two fleeting windows for victory, a terribly slim return on the punishment he took over the three bouts. This is all the more remarkable when you consider how hard he punches and how deep his resolve is. I can't think of another boxer with such heart and power whose window of victory in 3 fights vs the same guy seem so fleeting and narrow. Truly unique to Fury vs Wilder. And YET.... but for one moment, one second in the first fight.... it could have all been so different.
yeah, man, wilder will have nightmare about that 12th round for the rest of his life. But I don't agree that the 4th round kd was due to Fury negligence. He was trying to maul him all night long. But that put him in the danger zone often, and Wilder capitalized on it
Good fun fight. Agree with others when they say it was sloppy but still entertaining to watch. When Fury went down the second time I was thinking surely he won't stay down. Lo and behold he didn't and went on to get the job done. Wilder showed heart but he's still a prick. Didn't give Fury any credit yet again.
Haha anyone noticed how pretty much all of the Fury brothers (even John Fury) sound the same when they talk? Delivery, use of words, how they end their sentences. You could close your eyes and think it's the same person talking. It's so weird.
Yeah I flicked onto a Youtube video with John Fury and briefly thought "Holy shit Tyson Fury has aged very rapidly he might be in trouble!"
Oh fuck Kellerman he can be a bit ethnocenric when it comes to his favorite fighters. Good luck getting that 4th fight . I noticed Wilder and his fan base are all the same hard headed pricks who refuse to give the man(Fury) his credit where credit is due. I was listening to Dontae and he said Wilder won the first round with jabs to the body which is true. But I noticed the most significant punch was that overhand right landed by Fury that sort of buzzed Wilder at the end of round 1. I think at that moment he realized ok it's not the loaded gloves, it's not the spiked water, it's not the disloyal trainer, it's not 50 pound suit. At that moment he realized fuck this guy can really hurt me. His whole demeanor changed.
I don't think it's that the trainers where shit. Breland is a good trainer. But it's Wilder's alter ego that made him too hard headed to grow. When you think you know it all and stop listening to your trainers that's what happens. He'll always be that one trick pony with the retard strength. Nothing more nothing less. Coincidentally can you think of a time where bulking up with weight helped a boxer win a fight?????
Man watching that final knock out blow gave me Rachman vibes. That has to be up there with one of the hardest KO blows in heavyweight title fight history. Not the hardest, but it’s up there. Top 10
I really started to like wilder right around the Ortiz fight. When they bonded over their sick daughters, I felt wilder matured. Then something Happened. He turned into a super asshole and it just turned a bunch of people off. I get hyping yourself up and gimmicks and all that. But it seemed more than that with wilder. I really think if matured and a few years off of solid training with a solid trainer, he could make a come back. Fury will be retired soon.
I agree. But that punch, the way it landed on a basically out on his feet, lifeless body and the way wilder just crumpled over the ropes and onto the floor just made that KO punch legendary.
Btw, I’m sure this was discussed but wilder really bulked up. Looked like Anthony Johnson out there. I agree when fury, the weight didn’t help, but the fact Wilder thought he needed that weight, shows the second fight was more than just a glove issue for wilder. He generates enough power in the low 200s, he just needs more training. And a trainer that is the boss. Wilder seems like he doesn’t listen to anyone
And not just to pile up on wilder. Fury too should be criticized. That body is atrocious and for someone to respect boxing, as fury puts it, to come into the ring with that physique, it’s beyond disrespectful. Fury could drop 30-40 pounds and be a monster. It boggles my mind that he is 33 years old.
