There are two categories. The obvious quit jobs are easy: Tyson vs Danny Williams, Morales vs Pac III etc. What about the cases that are not clear cut? Did Douglas quit against Holyfield, what about Foreman against Ali? (My answers would be yes and no, in that order). List some examples of these borderline quit jobs, and what's your take on them.
McClellan vs Benn. Arguello vs Pryor II Arguello was on the record as saying that he told himself to not get back up.
Alexis Arguello in the Aaron Pryor rematch Derell Coley against Oscar De La Hoya Golden Johnson against Shane Mosley Miguel Cotto against Antonio Margarito I think these are clear, they quit as they had got the fight beaten out of them.
Kind of feel like Livinstone Bramble stayed down when Rosario dropped him. I think Bramble could have beaten the count if he absolutely wanted to, but he looked like he didn't wanna face Rosario's power anymore.
Some are borderline like guys getting up at 9 and a 1/2 trying to make it look like they got unfairly counted out. I believe in some cases was the result they were hoping for so they could have it both ways. Not take any further punishment but saving some face by not officially quitting either. Golovkin-Rubio is an example. Ref says 10 and waves the fight off. Fighter immediately objects. "Oh come on ref!!".
My guess is if the referee actually didn't reach 10 it they had already planned to quit in another way. If there was enough time left in the round they would just cover up not fighting back back hoping the ref would step in anyway for a TKO. Still complain about the stoppage. Or option #2 last the round and let the corner throw in the towel. That way they can still object. "I'm a warrior! It wasn't my decision! I'm willing to die in the ring!" While there are some fighters actually like that (and it's not healthy) your actions prove otherwise.
Yeh, sad, it was in a big tent,.. a big, pop-up makeshift tent that one. Presumably to keep Great Britain's colored fighters out of proper theatre's back then.
Love to hear a beat to that paragraph in your lower signature mate. French instructions, but made right here in Adelaide.
Tyson vs Seldon-It wasn't just a dive job it was an Oscar nomination type performance . Camacho Jr vs Leija
Arguello against Pryor and Morales against Pac in their rematches were near identical. They were two great fighters who'd already shown tremendous heart on multiple occasions and had just been to the well one too many times plus had found an adversary that they knew they couldn't beat no matter how many times they kept getting back up. No shame in that.
Not off the top of my head - it's why they stand out. You don't often see great fighters like them sitting out the count.
Probably like 30-40% of KO’s are dude’s choosing to stay down- rightfully so in vast majority of times.
