I was rewatching Cotto vs Urkal. Poor Cotto, Puerto Rico really didn't give a shit about him . The fight took place in San Juan, and the crowd sounded so underwhelming. You rewatch fights of Trinidad, Benitez, and Gomez fighting in PR, and the crowd is raucous, especially for Gomez and Tito. I would think Gomez and Tito remain the two most beloved fighters on the Island. No one gave a damn about Cotto
No. His best chance is against the Benitez who fought Curry. But Cotto's in a catch-22. He's too good to be taken lightly, but not good enough to win. Tito slaughters him.
Yeaj, he's at a slightly lower level than both, and he matches really badly with tito. He's not winning against these two. Probably gives a decent fight to Benitez, but gets sent to.the underworld by tito
Yeah, he does matchup worse against Tito, no disagreement there. Cotto is likely competitive with Benitez to a certain point in the fight. Eventually Benitez would pull away, and it would be very one sided. But it seems he would have less success against Trinidad, and probably gets taken outside inside 6-8.
Cotto is surprisingly competitive with Benitez until he fades late Tito, illegal wraps be damned, would seriously damage Cotto after giving up the first couple rounds
^^^^^^ Therein lies the problem that separated Cotto from the Big 4 of Rican greats... his lack of stamina. Ortiz, Gomez, Tito, and Benitez could go all night. Cotto was a chronic fader, similar to Rosario.
Benitez wins a UD 9-3 or 8-4 type scores over Cotto. Just on a different level as a technician. Trinidad would absolutely batter Cotto. It would start off competitive but would quickly turn into a mismatch. Trinidad KO 6
It wasn't THAT bad, but it wasn't good for an elite fighter. Cotto had better stamina than Jermain Taylor, but less stamina than Oscar.
