Self-explanatory. Four notables: 1. Liston. Sonny was 6'0, with an 84 inch reach - the exact same reach as Lennox Lewis. Crazy. 2. Hearns: Tommy had a longer reach than most heavyweights. 3. Hagler: Marvin had extremely long arms for a guy who was only 5'9. 4. Barry Mcguigan: Barry had very long reach for a featherweight. Think it was 71 inches. So essentially, McGuigan had the same reach as Tyson. Others?
Good one. Paul actually had 1 inch on Hearns in reach (79 vs 78). Too bad he didn't know how to use that reach like Hearns did.
Tommy Fury. By the way, Mrs Fury was definitely having an affair with Rudy Valentino. Wait till Big John finds out.
Bob Fitzsimmons is listed as being a snot beneath 6' His reach looks a good bit longer..... Always remember, reach is augmented by the width of the shoulders too
Michael Grant might have the record, but I'm not certain of it. 86 inches. That's longer than Lewis, Liston, Wilder, and Fury.
Cory's reach only listed at 71 inches. That's pretty average. Hagler was basically the same height as Cory, and had a 75 inch reach. Adding to the list, Michael Nunn was right up there with Hearns and Williams. 77 inches.
Monzon was 76 inches. Damn, so Hagler was like a legit 3-4 inches shorter than Monzon, with basically the same reach. Marvin was a freak. For some reason I thought Froch had exceptionally long arms, but he was less than Monzon... Froch was 75 inches.
Earlier Spinks' reach was listed as 78. I don't know which number is correct (or neither) but he seemed to have a lot of reach
Highly highly highly doubt the 78 is right. That's Hearns' reach. Even the eye test shows that Spinks didn't have Hearns' reach. If Cory's reach was that long, it would have been talked about before every telecast. The 71 is accurate.
Mark Breland had a 77 inch reach. So, I think it's safe to say that Williams, Hearns, and Breland had the three longest reaches of any welterweights.
I knew what Double meant, I was just being a dick as usual. I remember Candelo well. Back in '95 Finnish Olympic Bronze medalist Jyri Kjall was 6-0 (6) when he faced a near-novice Juan Garcia who only had two bouts in his record. This Garcia guy iced the Finn inside a round and later changed his name to J C Candelo
Luis Rodriguez was 5'8 with a 74'' inch reach. Short, compact torso with really long arms. I dunno what Jibaro Perez's reach was, or Tshifhiwa Munyai, but they were both physical freaks at bantam and super bantam.
Talking about finnish boxers, who are the goats among them? Seems to me that the the list would be pretty weak, even weaker than others nordic nations ( which aren't exactly hotbed for boxers). But i can be mistaken
This the jihadi you and Godfather knackered in the offtopics -> discovers rotten John finally took it seriously in 99' but with 8 sets of "triplets" 2 years apart, better never than late.
Extremely weak. Denmark had Battling Nelson, Swedes got Ingo but Norway and Finland are without legends. The pretty much unanimous goat of Finland is Gunnar Bärlund, an erratic guy who at his best was second contender for Joe Louis and whupped Buddy Baer. Elis Ask was #3 contender for Willie Pep. Olli Mäki is the only guy who has fought for the title but he was quickly dusted off by Davey Moore
