This is the guy who always posts montages of raging Arsenal fans when they lose. He had a bad day Sunday. Looked like he was about to cry on goal #4.

Lineker was a bit before my time but from what I’ve seen of him he was impressive as a striker.

Looks like Koeman is out at Barca.

Seriously, I never understood that signing. Koeman has been TERRIBLE everywhere he’s been.

Even in 2007 he damn near got Valencia relegated.

Is this a foul or not?

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1452031668831748097

Some might think yes, however the answer is actually no. If you look closely you'll notice the player spread his arms out afterward and gave kind of a "what?" gesture. That means no foul occurred.

I think I'm gonna watch MLS games tonight. Its very intentional.

I wanna see the C-level guys first, so I know what the A-level looks like.

I was looking up the history of MLS, and looks like Landon Donovan was the best guy they ever had... and I found out that Donovan was extremely average on world level.

So that gave me a good indication.

Yeah he played in both Germany and England for spells but never made any real impact. It helps a lot that he's American. It's not that he was a poor player, but if he was from a country with a bigger football culture he wouldn't be a "name".

Donovan was decent, he was never bad or anything, but like Whiskey said he was never a world beater either. I always thought Clint Dempsey was a better player.

Edit: Just to add, I think Donovan was a good squad player, in the sense you know if you bring him on he's going to work hard and put in a shift, he won't give the ball away. With Dempsey you got the same but in some matches he was also able to pull out some special moments that could change the course of the game. For example the chip goal he scored when Fulham beat Juventus 4-1, probably the greatest result in the club's entire history and he played a big part in it.

And even Dempsey would merely be a "decent" striker at world-level, right?

BTW, Cruyff was fuckin ridiculous. I guess I undersold him yesterday. I see why he's rated so highly all time.

I liked Dempsey, he was pretty good but yeah he was never going to be mistaken for world class. Decent is the best description for him. He's one of those guys you'd like to have in a mid-table or lower-table team but wouldn't be good enough for one of the top sides.

Watched a short doc on Paul Gascoigne. He looked very talented. Would he be considered unfulfilled potential?

Yeah definitely, he was a wonderful talent and had some magic moments at club and international level, but alcoholism and mental health problems saw him decline very quickly after the mid-90s. I think when people discuss England's greatest players, the majority would have Bobby Moore as the 'greatest', as he captained England to its only World Cup (and was a great player of course), whilst Gazza was the 'best', if we're just talking raw talent.

Yep. Dempsey was basically an elite scrub. He played at the very lowest level of the very highest level. He's a gatekeeper player.

One guy that's not been mentioned was DaMarcus Beasley.

I wouldn't say so, Best was better imo but they're comparable.

Best was Northern Irish by the way, not English, not sure if I'd made that confusing.

Beasley is a good shout, I'd forgotten about him. He was excellent in PSV's run to the CL semis which your lot ended up winning in '05.

Over here, I dont think there's anyway we'll ever emphasize football over the NBA and NFL. Too bad. I'm sure we could pump out a few greats if football was the religion over here that the NFL is.

I dont think us Americans have the attention span for world football. We don't really appreciate artful sports.

I'm obviously an exception, but that's why Americans prefer the NFL to world soccer, and prefer gay ass MMA to boxing.

I think what the USA are doing well now is getting their best young players out to Europe early in their careers, a lot seem to be coming through Germany and there are some very good players like Pulisic who are playing at the highest level.

Gazza drank, beat his wife, broke himself up, broke other players up, did stupid stuff to annoy the crowd, like really political stuff etc.

He was just a dumb childlike alcoholic with zero self control.

When Hoddle rang him in 1998 to tell him he wasn't part of the World Cup squad, Gazza took the call, DRUNK.
