Haney is dominating the fight. He's the busier guy. Jojo has had his moments but not busy enough. One thing for sure Haney is feather fisted. Stevenson and Davis smash him.
Having said that good performance for Haney. Jojo was too small and no pop. It's what we all expected. No surprises tonight.
Haney is only 23, it's not impossible for him to have a drastic improvement like Canelo did (roids aside). His chin, though...
If I'm not mistaken that was Cotto's brother and it happened when Canelo was 18. Having a granite chin and power has helped Canelo. Haney has neither. Just a matter of time. Haney is not that bad to be fair. He beats Mos b level guys at 135.
Every "slick boxer" tries to be the next Mayweather. I remember when Broner came on the scene he was being touted as the next Mayweather. But not only was Mayweather the greatest defensive fighter of his era or arguably ever he also had a solid set of whiskers. So even if you got past his impregnable defense he still could take a shot.
I thought last night was a big improvement from Haney. Diaz did about as well as I expected him to; good work in spots but too small to truly impose himself. Haney's work here was good. He set about walking Diaz back from the start - although it wasn't something he stuck with like glue - and worked the body well. He stood in the pocket and made Diaz miss. He showed he was fast with good feet and is savvy counter-puncher. The jab was less dominant here than it was in the Linares fight, and when hurt here, he showed he wouldn't just bitch out and run. He fought back. He's becoming a lot less like Mayweather, and is becoming more of his own fighter. Something which I think is key to him remaining near the top level. I think these last two fights show Haney has a lot of skills he can use. He can jab well against a taller man, work a good overhand and work the body against a shorter man, and knows how to tie him up and bring things to a standstill should he need to. It isn't pretty, but it gets it done. He also just confirmed last night what everyone suspected. He has zero power, and his chin seems pretty shaky.
Not Sure if it's True, But DAZN Said JoJo was the 1st Southpaw Dev's Faced as a Pro...JoJo Certainly Landed the Majority of Left Crosses He Threw, He Just Didn't Throw ENOUGH of Them... Another Factor is Dev is Acutely Aware of How His LACK of Power Can HURT His Marketability, So He Hangs in the Pocket/Stands in Front of Guys Loooooooonger Than He Probably Should... No, Dev Isn't LETTING Guys Hit Him, But It's a CONSCIOUS Effort On His Part to STAY in the Pocket Loooooonger, to Increase his Entertainment Value... REED was Actually PLEASANTLY Surprised Dev Didn't Stink Out the Joint vs, JoJo, After the Linares SCARE... REED
agREED... When You Accept the Fact Dev Can't Punch A LICK, It's Hard Not to Be Impressed w/His Performance Last Night...REED Expected JoJo to "Go For It" More Than he Did, but Credit to Dev for Not Allowing It... REED Expected More JABS as Well, but by Merely Keeping His Jab Hand EXTENDED, Dev Basically Tamed JoJo's Rushes...The THREAT of the Left Jab Kept JoJo Honest... Dev's Very Skilled But Due to the Flaws You Pointed Out, He's Going to HAVE to Stick & Move, in LESS Than Fan Friendly Fashion, to BEAT Elite Level Fighters...It Takes NUTS to Hang in the Pocket as he Does, But When You're Bringing an IFFY Chin and a Butterknife to a Gun Fight, That's a Recipe for Eventual DISASTER... REED
Haney sure as fuck gets KOd by Tank fighting the way he did against Jojo. He would have to utilize more movement to have a chance. But... at least Haney is more balls than Tank. He might not win, but at least he's willing to fight the top guys.
I like Haney. As others have said on here he doesn't have much power but he likes to stick in the pocket and isn't afraid to mix it up. I really like his shot selection and his jab. He can get some lovely shots off in close but in doing so leaves himself vulnerable as he hasn't the best chin.
A knockout victim just waiting to happen. What's worse is his piss poor recuperation skills as we seen vs Linares. Fighters get knocked down, it's boxing, but I suspect once Haney hits the canvas, he's not popping back up like say J.M Marquez.
And he reacts like… well like it hurts alot.. agree it’s just a matter of time. Somehow I imagine his post fight interview with him being totally cool with having just been KTFO.
