Yeah, I've been watching old Spurs games. Gazza was a special talent. Maybe not an other-worldly talent like Maradona or Best, but certainly levels more talented than Grealish.

Okay. Even though Everton looked like hammered shit and the human bean bag somehow played for 117 minutes, that 3rd round win over Hull has partially gotten me back into this.

The Rafa out campaign is in full swing though he still has some staunch defenders. I am not in either camp. I am disappointed with the season but I want to see them turn it around. I'll leave all that to our incompetent board. I can't see any other manager stepping in right now with what we have and doing much better BUT Rafa is not helping himself by continuing to play the human bean bag.

@Hut*Hut looks like Celtic vs Hibs next week won't be available to watch... not here, at least.

In fact, Paramount isn't showing a SPL game until Hibs vs Hearts in Feb.

Brentford are lucky they had a good start, they'd be right in the relegation mix on recent form.

Who was the better Liverpool striker: Robbie Fowler or Michael Owen?

Good question, I'd be curious on others take on this. A young Fowler arguably ranks behind only Shearer as the best English 'pure number 9' of the last ~30 years (shouts go to Cole & Ferdinand). But its hard to quantify the broader value of an attribute like prime Owen's pace....it can change the shape of whole games just by existing. Real Madrid would probably never have signed Fowler for instance. England hardly capped him. Owen impacted international tournaments. I'd have to lean towards him.

I happened to one of Owen's first 'big' goals live, when he recently turned 17. He was one of those players who was basically as good at 18 as he ever became

Oldie - Spurs blowout of Man U in 65.

Check out the move and goal by Jimmy Greaves at 24:25. WOW! Greaves was awesome.

Owen definitely played with more pace going by strictly highlights. I'll try to watch some full games of both this week.

I know that Shearer and Cole were pure 9s. I believe Ian Rush was a pure 9 also, so maybe I should have asked Fowler or Rush.

Gary Lineker? I believe he had more playmaking abilities than a pure 9.

Going by the old film I'm watching of Greaves, he looks a different caliber player to that group.

I am surprised by the lack of moves thus far in the transfer window. I know it's early but I thought Man U & Newcastle would be shifting players left & right by now.

I see that the talk of Mbappe possibly going to RMA is dead. Apparently he's staying with PSG. Speaking of, RMA plays Barca today.

I think if we are talking strictly Liverpool, it is very, very close. I'd maybe give a slight edge to Fowler. Overall careers, Hut is right in that Owen had a bigger impact, especially at international level. Owen had two major assets - ridiculous pace and clinical finishing. Injuries fucked his career up and took away his pace but despite being 50% of the player he once was, he could always be backed to score if the ball fell to him in the penalty box. Hut is absolutely right that 18-year old Owen is as good as he ever ended up being, it's a shame as that wasn't his fault but he still forged an excellent career.

RMA fans try to make a case that Benzema is the current best, but I just don't see him as dynamic as Salah.

Really don't get that one either. Bizarre signing. Wood is a decent striker at a particular level, but he's not the kind of player to get you out of a relegation scrap. Newcastle really need to get a statement signing (Trippier is not it) or they're fucked.

Foden i think has the talent to be up there one day. I dunno about THE best in the world, but he has the talent to be in the conversation.

Benzema is having a very good season, no doubt, but yeah he's nowhere near Salah. Salah is currently operating at a level very few players get to, and he's been there for a while now.

I think the Ballon d'Or lost any credibility they may have had in an instant when Messi won it this year and Salah finished 7th, insanity.

And even when Ronaldo vs Messi was the thing, there were people who refused to entertain the notion that one was the best, simply because they regarded the other as better.

It wasn't ignorance, it was preference.

GQ IS WOKE BS that's trying to make some sort of claim that we've all been denying the obvious.

That I agree with, your point,..... 7th is fucking daft. He's joint first with 2 others, after that it's a question of taste and personal appeal.

The Ballon d'Or seems to have always been extremely flawed.

Going back to their previous retarded rule of must be a European and awarding some "decent" striker named Belakov the award when Maradona was clearly the best player in Europe.

    Questionable award.
