Mayorga no doubt has a size advantage here. But Maidana's power remained legit at 147, as did his durability. It's maybe easy to imagine Mayorga just overwhelming Maidana. But Maidana is the much more clever fighter. And although he was not known for his defense, it was substantially better than Mayorga's. Thoughts?

It took Trinidad 9 rounds of sustained punishment to stop a prime Mayorga. Trust me, Chino's punches aint doing shit to him.

The 02-03 Mayorga would beat the ever living shit outta Maidana.

Maidana has actually become absurdly overrated due to the Floyd fights imo.

He was going life death with Soto Karass. Bum ass Soto Karass.

    Mayorga would batter him.

Mayorga is really overrated and didn't actually beat anyone outside of Six Heads and Forrest. Maidana would beat the living fuck out of six heads and Mayorga lucked out with such a good match-up against Forrest. Other than those two, Mayorga lost to every other top fighter he faced. And that's being generous to Lewis.

Maidana has better skills, is quicker and likely hits harder and Mayorga is tougher but easier to hit. It'd be a brawl, that's for sure. At the same time, Mayorga's chin gets really overrated too.

This is a real close fight. Both guys get way too much mileage considering their win-loss ratio against ranked fighters.

This would be one of the wackiest, ugly-yet-fun fights ever :Jest:

I think I'd lean slightly towards Mayorga because of the size advantage.

Maidana didn't hit harder, and he certainly wasn't faster. Mayorga had fast hands, and was a naturally bigger puncher than Maidana.

I never thought I would be defending Mayorga, but if anything, he's become UNDERRATED.

Beating... actually BEATING a prime Forrest is more impressive than giving an old Floyd two rough fights.

Maidana sure as fuck would not have beaten Forrest... ever.

@George Crowcroft made the point in another thread that Maidana's lack of technique was actually a help rather than a hindrance against Mayweather as Floyd couldn't time him for counters in the same way as he normally could against a more refined, classical boxer. I've always thought Mayorga could have given Mayweather similar problems for the same reason, he's a bigger guy too so it would have been interesting. Mayorga shelled up easier than Maidana but Floyd didn't have the same firepower as Tito or Oscar so it would have taken him longer to tame Mayorga.

Considering a shot Mayorga was out-boxing Mosley, who was one fight away from his career best performance against Margarito, I see no reason why he couldn't out-box Maidana for 12 rounds

Agreed. Mayorga is really underrated. Gave a good fight to pretty much everyone, bar tito and oscar.

A fun, rough, and sometimes sloppy slugfest that I wouldn't mind seeing. I favor the guy that beat Vernon Forrest twice over the guy that beat Adrien Broner.

Whenever You Match 2 Aggressive, Somewhat CRUDE Sluggers, Bet on the Guy w/the QUICKER Hands; Ricardo Mayorga...He'd BEAT Maidana to the Punch the Majority of the Time, HURT Maidana w/Either Hand and Had a Reliable Beard to Boot...

    Helluva Fight Though!
