In a place here called The Mad Bishop and Bear... Fucking pathetic attempt to capture the age of steam and retro, LED filament lights done up like the old bulbs, pictures of the flying Scotsmab, few bits of retro tat, suitcases and signs.

LGBQTPLUS staff who don't do flat whites, only Lattes.

Pish worn flooring, not spit and sawdust, just worn pine.

Even though he's on the wrong side of 30 he's still a regular starter for Bayern and gets his share of goals and assists. Apparently both Everton and Newcastle are showing interest? Seems really strange to me. Even if Bayern are looking to the future why would Muller want such a move? You play for one of the biggest clubs in the world with CL football a certainty only to join some side's rebuilding project in another country?

I'm sure those clubs would increase his salary but he's played for only one club his entire life. Certainly doesn't strike me as a mercenary type.

Was going to say, every time I see Muller these days he's still top class, despite his age. His style of play isn't too physically taxing either so he's definitely got a couple of years left. I don't think it's a bad signing at all if they're looking to stay up and go through a transitional phase.

I know hes a few years older but we're seeing with Ronaldo now...a guy can get to an advanced age and still look good & put together a highlight reel, but things like total yards covered, sprints per game, defensive actions etc all start getting sacrificed. A side like Munich that wants to be the best of the best can't make those compromises. Take the fee before the rot sets in....let a sucker club like NUFC seem to be (sorry feebes) pay to watch the decline

Yeah but even if that were to be the case it's not as if Muller would have no say in the matter. How exactly are they going to sell him on that?

If they make him feel unwelcome enough there's a good chance he'll leave.

The difference is though that Ronaldo leads the line so shortcomings in pace etc are more pronounced and affect the whole team. Muller wouldn't be doing that, he'd be playing behind the striker and timing runs into space.

Not so sure. A number of years ago when he went through a poor spell of form the upper mgmt wanted him to play a sort of reduced role. He doesn't speak much to the media but he publicly stated that essentially he wouldn't be having that as he was too ambitious. If that was their feeling then they should sell him as he wouldn't accept it. Rather than risk losing him they revered course and made him integral to their side. That clearly worked out in their favor. I don't know how the Bayern fan base feels about him but i'd have to imagine he's quite popular so trying to freeze him out wouldn't go over so well, particularly when he's still playing well.

Yes that was then and this is now but it's hard for me to imagine him being sold on a move to those two particular clubs.

The frequency of those runs is gonna start dropping fast tho. At 28 he might've played a raking pass to the winger from a deeper position then bust a gut to get on the end of the box to box counter attack but those days will be over. And with the counter press and press from the front everyones roll in the chain is basically the same, all about the yards and intensity. Age is a remorseless bastard:Jest: selling a high earning 32 year old for a good fee just seems like its almost always gonna be smart business to me

    :Jest:

Hmm. Maybe he will sign with Newcastle. It will be only on the condition they are relegated though. He'll want the opportunity to try getting it done against Stoke in the championship.

I do see your point to be fair. I just see the comparison being more like Cambiasso playing out his last couple of seasons at Leicester, keeping them up and solidifying their position rather than Ronaldo, who is actually expected to win things.

The main issue for me is that he's obviously going to see much less of the ball at Newcastle than he's used to getting at Bayern. When the opportunity to make those runs into space become few and far between, can he still be effective? I'm not sure.

He'll be immense at newcastle for a year or two, i just seems a bit short termist especially on the back of the trippier signing. But they're in a relegation fight so....what am I talking about?:Jest: I i just hope they arent giving these guys 4 year contracts on megabucks.

Watched another retro match - Argentina vs Belgium at the 86 WC.

The Belgium defense had no answer for the lil cokehead. None whatsoever. He carved them up like a steak.

Excellent Belgium side too. Their best ever until the current team came along, but yeah Maradona was just on a different plain to everyone.

I know. I don't think Egypt would beat Wales but Salah is better than anyone Wales have. I watched Nigeria moving the ball effortlessly around, breaking, carving openings and then it was schoolyard finishing. Ball booted into row Z or thumped wide etc.

Comoros are shit but that free kick vs Cameroon was epic. 10 man Comoros with their left back in goal made Cameroon look great and shit by letting Cameroon display the worst finishing I've seen in a long time.

Meanwhile McGregor's cheekbone surgery apparently went well and he might be able to play in a few weeks with a protective mask, but almost certainly not vs the newco billy boys
