The move itself makes sense. The Messi-Neymar-Mbappe trio isn't working at PSG, clearly too many individual egos at play. I'm just wondering where the hell Real got the money from as I thought they were meant to be broke.

How did Claudio Reyna do back in the day playing for Rangers? I was watching an old USMNT game last night - Reyna was much better than that bum Landon Donovan Americans love to hype. He was a pretty decent attacking midfielder - though obviously not elite.

Aye he was a really good player for them....i dont remember the chronology as well as i would with Celtic but i think at one point they had Van Bronkhurst, Arteta, De Boer & Reyna all playing in that midfield and, although not the highest regarded of the bunch, he wasnt regarded as second fiddle or an also ran either. So pretty high calibre

In absolute terms, he wasn't. Relative to his absurd hype on this side of the pond, he was. I've heard him labeled as the American Messi by some "soccer" tards over here.

Turns out McGregor didnt need surgery after all - I *think* its all been a ruse and we'll get a 'shock announcement' at ~6:25pm that he's starting. Fingers crossed because the thought of trying to play through Kent & Aribo's athletic high press with James McCarthy as pivot is skitter inducing. Maeda arrived back in Glasgow this morning after international duty with Japan- I reckon he'll come on for the last 30 minutes, get his pace and pressing right in about their tired legs.

Reyna from what I watched had good technical ability, and well above average vision. Pretty decent scorer too. What he lacked was the quickness and dynamism that elites have.

I didn't even realize until watching the beginning of the Hibs-Hearts game yest that Martin Boyle had been sold to the Arabs. I got pulled into a work project, and wasn't able to watch much of it.

Must be Old Firm day. Two conversations in work have somehow separately ended up on bloody sunday and the roll disputes over idolatry played in the reformation. No even kidding. Mercifully Ive not ended up in a convo about tax law yet, but on a long enough timeline...... Get me to the pub then TAKE ME TO YOUR PARADISE!

Adu was a bust, but to be fair, he was horribly managed and ruined by the U.S. media.

While in his teens he was expected to be the 2nd coming of Pele, and never had time to properly develop, like he would have in Europe.

If he developed in Europe, he probably doesn't become a great, but he also wouldn't have been the epic bust that America turned him into.

The Adu hype was kinda crazy yeah, I get it though because he was exceptional in youth tournaments, plus USA at the time were desperate for a superstar in the sport. He obviously wasn't as good as advertised but he was rushed big time and could have had a better career if he'd been allowed to develop away from the spotlight.

This, basically. Adu should have moved to an academy in Europe early on instead of staying in the US.

Freddy Adu looked 42 when he was 22.....at a really young age alot of what sets guys apart must just be early puberty

You mentioned that before with regards to the development of Rooney and Ronaldo and yeah I think you're right. Rooney was an absolute fucking beast physically at 14.

The teen prodigy thing is what drew the unfair, and unrealistic comparisons to Pele. And the American media just ran with that, because we know fuck all about world futbol, but we have an obsession with instant gratification and superstars.

If he was a prodigy quarterback, the U.S. media and coaches would have realized that he needs time to develop, but like I said, the media and coaches over here don't understand world football.

In a European academy, they would have been a lot more realistic about his development.

Adu should have maybe tried switching position, he had the physical dimensions of a centre back, it may possibly have worked. Everyone forgets Sol Campbell started his career as a striker and then became one of the best defenders in the English game. Dion Dublin made the transition pretty well too later on in his career.

On a slightly lesser scale we have this kid called karamoko dembele who was being touted aroùnd europe as the next superstar, highlight reel goals at international tournaments, interest from barca etc.....poor kids barely grown an inch since 13. I think the club even put him on hgh and he might be up to 5'5 now. But he's pushing 18 & im not sure he's even the top prospect at celtic anymore....its a shame to pile so much hype and hope on kids that young, its still such a long shot

Gareth Bale started as a defender no? There's probably a fair amount of guys that switch positions when playing for their national team if it's a weak side. I haven't even watched a game, but Alphonso Davies plays a more forward role for team Canada than he does with Bayern Munich. I assume there's other examples but that's not exactly transforming a career, just a tactical decision.
