I think Haugen has a very good chance of a late stoppage. He had sneaky power in his counters, and guys never saw it coming. Diaz had an okay chin, it wasn't especially solid. If Haugen got him in trouble, Haugen was a damn good finisher.
Diaz was so front foot heavy, and Haugen was very smart. He had to be because he wasn't big, he wasn't fast, he wasn't a killer puncher. But he moved well enough, hit well enough and he was smart. He would get Diaz with all his weight in one place and hit him with some clean shots. I trained a guy that had sparred a lot of very big name guys. The first was Juan Diaz. My friend, at the time, had 2 amateur fights and 3 pro fights. He told me, years later, that while he himself was very much learning how to fight, he could tell that Diaz couldn't fight much.
2009 had a really strong start, I'll never forget. It began with Shane pulling a huge upset and destroying Marg in January, and then just a month later, Marquez-Diaz 1. And then, just a few months later, Froch-Taylor.
