Khan never influenced boxing like that article claimed he did. He never landed the big fights he claims he deserved vs Mayweather and Pac. He didn't revolutionise paydays like say Michael Carbajal, or Kevin Kelley or Ali. The notion that he "paved the way" for AJ is fucking nuts. If Khan had never been born there AJ would have still been around and done his thing. The only achievement of Joshua's that Khan made possible was the fucking of Khan's wife by AJ. Khan made this possible by marrying her. That just leaves the question of Khan being better and having achieved more than the majority of people to have laced up gloves. Its a daft conclusion. Khan should only be compared like to like, and when he does, he comes out of it pretty average. What's the test? How good of a career compared to people with LESS talent than he had? That's no test....
You've got to laugh at the beeb. Tbf, it's not only boxing where they're a bunch of state-the-obvious know fuck alls. It's just about every sport and most of the news coverage.
Khan's talent DOES NOT surpass that of most boxers ever to lace up gloves. It's a useless statement in any event. I'm sure Donovan Bailey is faster than almost anyone that ever put spikes on but so what? You compare yourself to the best. Not the rest. I think Khan lucked out. Really. Jawad Khaliq was as good as Khan. Not as flashy. Not as Affletic. But as good. Better chin, stronger, way more poise. But timing is everything. THE UK was looking for an inoffensive, media savvy Muslim guy and in 2005 Khan was right there to slot straight in to the role they needed. In addition, they say Khan paved the way for AJ etc. Nonsense. The truth is that Hatton had totally reinvigorated the paying public in the years after the collapse of Naz and that whole late 90s mad scene. Hatton is the progenitor of those sing-song sing-along crowds. Calzaghe had become a running joke until the Lacy fight but even then he never had the momentum of Hatton. The Khan/Joshua extravaganzas are directly related to that night in Manchester when Hatton beat Tszyu. Khan's people knew this which is why Khan had high profile locker room appearances like the one with Hatton before the Oliveira fight. No fighter in living memory has been as badly fucked up as Khan was in the Prescott fight and been rewarded so handsomely so soon after.
Its a running clown show where box ticking gets you the job. It exists to rinse the taxpayer and chat shit to people. Sometimes inoffensively, other times much more offensively. The lad who wrote that article is a British-Asian who sympathises with Khan. I've no issue with that. But it's not boxing journalism, it's something else. In many regards, Khan sort of got, like David Haye, the ending he deserved, where his lack of innate talent and schooling was emphatically exposed by a guy with real old school skills who had been somewhat overlooked.
Definitely think now that Khan longed this out knowing the real truth, that Brook always had his number. Would have perhaps been competitive to a degree many years ago, but the result the same.
Yeah Hamed was a big star. Even if back then he was overrated, he was still for real and the crowds he brought with him every night was the type of star power that most fighters will simply never have. I always got that impression that Khan was being marketed as sort of a middle eastern/British Oscar De La Hoya with the Olympic background, the marketing, and yes star quality. If anybody was BOOKED to be a superstar it was Khan. But he simply wasn’t good enough to wear that suit, and his to Prescott, Peterson, and Garcia was proof of that.
I remember laughing at I think it was Adam Smith on Sky commentating on the Khan-Barrera fight a couple of fights after the Prescott disaster. He absolutely shit it every time Barrera threw a punch and when Barrera landed the first hard left hook, Smith blindly panicked for a second and then roared in part relief part exaltation like Khan was the second coming of Wayne McCullough when he didn't go down from the shot. It was quality.
Only to an extent. All of the shortcomings were there and played a major role. Failed to finish his man when he had him going. Failed to effectively defend himself, preferring to push him off repeatedly and that's why he lost the points Got sucked into a war that he shoukd have been able to evade.
Smith has been there a quarter of a century. A true true dyed in the pubes company man..... They all know the shortcomings of Khan etc but their job is to act as if there are none present at all and that it's all cushty.
Smith has been the most annoying man in British boxing for a quarter of a decade. The worst commentary of all time. I used to be angry when Americans complained about Lampley and HBO coverage considering that UK fans had to listen to this cretin week to week.
Did He Also Commentate Khan-Prescott???... Been a While Since He's Watched It, But REED Vaguely Recalls a PANICKED Voice, Like a Mother Watching Her Child Being Devoured by a Gator, as Khan's Head Rested on the Bottom Rope... REED
Most likely if I recall. Like Irish says he's one of the house commentators on Sky, so yeah. I can't remember 100% without checking though.
Its not clear. Only two people know..... Its possible that Khan alleged it so it would reflect badly on her. Not entirely sure why he didn't think it wouldn't reflect badly on HIM. AJ denies it.
Before Brook fought Khan:- *Walking down the street *putting his head on the pillow *Talking to his kids and... *Feeling like Carl Froch feels.... .....were not options.
I rewatched the fight and I gotta admit even though I did enjoy it, for the first ever I felt a bit sorry for Khan. He took a savage beating and he showed heart and kept trying but it was a mismatch. He was never in the fight. He was even more competitive with Canelo than he was here. But it’s all balanced out because for years Khan openly and shamelessy ducked Brook even after he won the IBF belt. Even with Brook calling him out OFFERING a title shot, he still ran away from it to chase Mayweather and Pacquiao and all for what? To get slaughtered by Canelo? He’d have done better to take the fight with Brook in 2016. Horrible match making.
And that's what I meant when I said Khan ended up the same as David Haye. Boxing keeps very good accounts. Like Santa, boxing knows who has been naughty, it keeps a list and it checks it twice. Khan had not been paying his dues and eventually had nothing left right when he needed it most.
I felt sorry for Khan too. You could see how much he was trying. He was getting hurt and you could see him trying to play it off. He had legit heart at one point in his career but lost it as his career progressed but this kind of proved that a fighter with legit heart at one point in his career will still retain that attribute even if he quits a few times, he can still call upon elite heart if he really wants to.
No Traces of Bullshit; GENUINE Ass Question, FOR REAL... Have You Read Your OWN Khan Khamments in This Very Thread ALONE???...As Such, What EXACTLY Differentiates YOU From Carl Froch in the "Dickhead" Category, as it Applies to Amir Khan Specifically???... To Be CLEAR, Yes, it's Apparent Froch Harbors SOME Type of Grudge Against Khan, Warranted or Otherwise, But it's Also HILARIOUS REED'ing Your Post-Fight Khan Posts, Then Labeling Froch a "Dickhead" for Saying Similar Shit... WTF???... REED
