About to start here in Japan and being shown on Amazon Prime. I don’t know what GGG has left but if he’s half the fighter he used to be expect a short one because Murata sucks ass. He’s slow as molasses and lacks power.
Rd 1 Murata was more active GGG feeling him out with jabs and a few uppercuts, close rd but 10-9 Murata
Word. Murata looks a lot better than I remember. Doesn’t look as slow but still pretty crude style. Not sure how smart it is to brawl with GGG but he’s getting the better of it so far.
Rd 2 same thing really, Murata not scared and throwing punches, GGG sorta plodding around throwing jabs, 20-18 Murata
Rd 3 GGG starting to unload now, nice battle Murata not going backwards either. GGG getting outworked but still has fire in those fists, but Muratas work and body shots making GGG look a bit old. Firefight. 30-17 Murata
Rd 4 Murata walking GGG backwards and throwing, lots of left's to the body. GGG still there throwing but he's plodding a bit. GGG landing some big shots and you'd think he'll hurt Murata at some stage, and comes back late to squeak the round. 39-37 Murata
Rd 5 Muratas bodywork is good. GGG lands some left hooks now, starting to become more urgent. Murata isn't fazed though as they trade left's and uppercuts. Close round I give to Murata. 49-46 Murata
Rd6 GGG coming on and landing big shots to the head. Murata feeling it now and GGG is shaking off the rust. Murata still working the body. GGG on his toes now, momentum shift here, Murata is still throwing but GGG round. 58-56 Murata
Murata is getting fazed. See him slowly starting to wilt. This is just what GGG does, looks like he’s getting the worst of it but he knows guys can’t take his power all night so he just toughs through it until the fall because he carries that power through the whole fight. Despite how tough Murata is it’s just a matter of time.
Rd 7 GGG looking fresher and Murata looking a bit beat. GGG starting to slip a lot more punches, jab better. Murata still digging the liver shots, fighting back but he's feeling the punches now. GGG forcing the action and Murata backing up now. 67-66 Murata and this is going GGG way now
Rd 8 GGG back jabbing and landing. Murata starting to get beat up by those jabs. His corner are shitting themselves now. GGG the Terminator and just keeps coming. Murata getting smashed by GGG now, tries to respond with a right hand and lands a few, but doesn't do much. 76-76 fight even but GGG has all the momentum
Rd 9 GGG smashed Murata with a right, wobbled. GGG trying to finish him now. Murata responds but GGG landing right hands flush now, Murata feeling every blow. Tough guy Murata but he's a punching bag really, although he won't quit. MASSIVE RIGHT from GGG, down goes Murata and in comes the towel. TKO 9
GGG was rusty as hell but when he warms up he's as deadly as ever. Won't beat Canelo if he gives away early rounds like that plodding around.
Kudos to Murata. I have to now put respect on his name. Looks a lot better now and is tough as nails. The worst thing you can do against G3 is brawl. The problem is he makes you think you’re doing so good because his defense is stopping punches with his head and body. Unfortunately his durability is probably only surpassed by his power and like I said he carries it all night. To beat GGG you better be an elusive defensive boxer who doesn’t allow him to connect very often. Very good fight tonight.
Yeah, Canelo seems to be the only one who can consistently stand up to his power. By the way, great job with the rbr, much appreciated. At least now those sleepy headed Americans can read about it when they wake up .
Canelo is the type of slick guy that can keep GG at bay enough to beat him, and keep him honest with offense. He can't just give away 4 rounds and expect to beat Canelo.
Yeah I'm half cut on beer so why not. Agree Canelo should be favourite if he beats Bivol, GGG looked rusty.
Murata actually sucks. GGG just looked bad in those early rounds and took a while to get going. Murata has a good chin as you see with most Japanese fighters. Prime GGG would have KO'd him in 3-4 rounds.
Murata has a big fuckin head. Golovkin looked old and more hittable. Very beatable but he ended up beating the fuck out of murata. I, too, think Alvarez will stop Golovkin in a third fight at 168. Maybe more activity could help Golovkin be a bit sharper, but based on this and the Derevyanchenko fights its hard to imagine he has enough left to be overly competitive with Alvarez at the higher weight. It also probably wont happen until at least another year+ from now.
