I'm gonna stick my neck on the line and say the vast majority of boxing fans will be watching Stevenson-Valdez.
Ohhh FUCK! I obviously misread something, cause I got confused reading about this hoe fight. I thought Stevenson-Valdez was headed for MSG. Turns out that fight is gonna be at MGM grand. FUCK! I was planning on going! Well, I sure as shit ain't goin to the Garden to watch no goddamn women's fight. Guess I'll just settle for watching Valdez get beatdown on ESPN.
This is historic. First women's fight to blah blah headline blah meh. Taylor loses, possibly spectacularly.
I've never seen a Serrano fight but I'm absolutely adamant Taylor is on the slide. Has been for a while now, and it makes sense. She is like, 36. I don't really give much of a fuck about this fight. The only female boxer I keep up to date with is Natasha Jonas, and that's only because she works fairly closely with the academy. Also, if she wins a world title I can tell people I beat a professional boxing world champion in an arm wrestle.
Tennis is literally THE ONLY mainstream sport where women compete at a high level and are worth watching. Basketball & Boxing? Get em the fuck outta here.
Natasha Jonas says she wants women to get paid the same as men. In the history of boxing I don't think two fighters in a given fight EVER got paid the same. Ever. This isn't Wimbledon. From a boxing POV, Jonas is out of the loop following losses to Taylor herself and then psycho Obenauf who went on to kill her husband. Here's our very own Jake Donovan. Viviane Obenauf, Former Title Challenger, Arrested And Held In Connection With Husband's Death
I think he meant 1 vs 1 in a direct face2face competition rather than the whole "what score did you get thing". Either ways THIS fight will be entertaining.
I think Serrano might get outboxed by the Amir Khan of womens boxing. Taylors MO is to throw inaccurate combos, exit, move away, reset, rinse repeat. Serrano has to be able to do something while the Amir Khan 2/3/4 punch combos is coming at her. She's got to slip the first shot and start throwing with Taylor or somehow show improved footspeed to be able to match Taylor for footspeed and get her lead shots off. She doesn't have a good jab and is coming forward with hooks which are unlikely to get there unless she can throw it right after slipping the first punch. The good thing for Serrano is that it will get easier in the later rounds as Katie slows down plus Serrano can switch stances as she is pressuring which really helps with cutting the ring off and will make Taylor have to work even harder than usual to maintain distance. I would like to see Serrano win but there is a footspeed and footwork gap that should give Katie the first 4-5 rounds and then she can get through the rough moments to a decision win. It's only 10 two min rounds which is right up Taylors alley. If they were 3 min rounds I would have no hesitation in picking Serrano immediately with full confidence. Taylor is going to have a rough last couple of rounds here.
Serrano is going to have a hard time closing the distance and she's easy to hit against a bigger girl albeit a non puncher. Katie is on the slide but she can get through rough moments and as long as they are at range and shes Amir Khanning she will have the appearance of being some master boxer as usual and get favorable cards. Books are giving it a 70% chance to go the distance based on the current odds. Serrano is going to have to beat her from pillar to post to get a decision. If I was betting the fight I'd first take Taylor by decision. I would rather take Serrano by KO then her outright line just in case she gets jobbed. That first Taylor Persoon fight was one of the worst decisions ever. I had it 8-2 to Persoon, 7-3 at a stretch.
Persoon won that first fight. Punched Taylor to a standstill. Katie is brave but she peaked in 2012 imho
it is a high enough profile fight and will be a decisive enough victory for serrano, even by decision, where i dont see another persoon type fiasco.
The scoring was completely fine. Taylor won the early and late rounds, Serrano won the middle rounds. 2 of them quite ‘dominantly’.. but no KDs and she punched herself out to the point of losing nearly every round after that.
Serrano won the fight. Period. Took her foot off the gas in round 6 for some reason after she had the broad out in round 5. Still won. Ridiculous for 2 judges to only give Serrano 3 rounds but not a huge shock. Exactly why I didn't wager a bigger amount
Serrano gassed after the she hurt Taylor. She has had to take rounds off in other fights too. Taylor was always going to get any slow rounds and Serrano didn't have the footspeed or footwork to catch up with her most of the time. I think some posters here admitted they had not seen Serrano but were picking her to win. You gotta watch both fighters before you give an opinion fellas. I thought Serrano won the fight but it was a predictable result. I am sad we will never get to see Taylor KO'd
Serrano had 2 really good rounds, a few close ones then the rest had her looking like a bobble-head as she got tagged coming in. No way she won 7 rounds.
Taylor is so so hittable now. I knew her in Ireland in 2007 and her entire thing, thanks to her dad, was not getting hit.. .. That's gone now. She's being trained by this Ross Enamait character, who , when I knew Katie, was a YouTube fitness guru. .......Katie is still in a bad place. Nothing in my opinion has been changed by anything that happened last night. Her amateur experience and innate talent got her out of jail last night Vs somebody who clearly didn't know how to apply her efforts over 10 rounds .
She had no idea how to mete out her efforts over 10 rounds. It's an acquired skill built up by experience and training. Serrano will acquire it if she sticks at her craft and is properly looked after.....my suspicion is that , like men's boxing, if not more so, women's boxing is full of charlatans who couldn't train a dog to crap on grass.
