Roy had a bad night and even then he seemed to be getting to Griffin....Griffin found, and took, a way out . But he was good enough to get Roy into that state. It's not talent, its application..Canelo just wouldn't go about it that way but he'd never walk into that left hook that Roy took Griffin out with. I'm not hating Canelo. He's a short ass middleweight.
Canelo has sorta become this boxing “savant”in the eyes of his fans and mainstream media. Make no mistake, he’s good. But he’s extremely overrated. And that just goes to show how well his opponents have been picked. He’s looked so good in the eyes of his supporters that they think he could beat almost anybody from 154-168 all time head to head. Canelo is a very good talent, but not a once in a life time talent. And that just doesn’t seem to register in the eyes of casuals or the main stream media.
I'm eagerly awaiting Chris Eubank Jr to enter the chat.... He's the best managed fighter since Floyd.....the TV , the promotions, the writers, the opponents, the fights, all of it.
It took a lhw to beat Canelo. Roy never overcame adversity neither did Tyson. They'll never be on the level of Ali, Chavez, Duran and Leonard. Not shitting on anybody just speaking facts.
Tyson isn't as great as any fighter listed, but he's damn sure greater than Canelo. Roy is both greater and better than Chavez. Stronger resume, longer prime, more dominant. Roy isn't as great as Ali, Leonard, Duran, but his prime is on par with anyone's. Your obsession with Jones is sad. The fuck does Roy have to do with every Canelo thread?
Nobody would have said Pacquio was not great if he lost to Margarito. A 7 division champion. And nobody said Oscar De La Hoya wasn't great because he lost to a bigger man (Hopkins). It's hard to say if Canelo is great or just very good. I'll say based on accolades compared to his peers of his generation(Crawford, Spence, Charlo, Plant, Saunders, Andrade, Golokin) he has accomplished more. If we compare him to all time greats then he doesn't measure up. The other thing to keep in mind is Canelo's weird body type. Is he really a LHW? Is he a true MW? I will give him credit for daring to be great. While Crawford, Davis, Charlo and Andrade keep fighting bums at least Canelo is fighting the very best or at least champions. While Tank fights Rolly and Charlo fights Suleki(who da fook is that guy)
Actually it took a former junior lightweight to beat Canelo, followed by a middleweight, but keep going...
The adversity shit is overrated. Thats Rocky shit. Greats should be largely judged on their prime performances. Duran's prime eviscerates Canelo's.
Yup. Plus, what real adversity is Canelo overcoming? He's the most politically favored fighter of our lifetime. This ain't a Mexican Saad Muhammad we're taking about here. Canelo will go down as a lower top 10 all time Mexican. I think that's quite fair. For me, he can't be a Chavez, Sanchez, Saldivar, Olivares, Canto, as they were just far more dominant.
It has a little to do with opposition and don't say it doesn't. The Klit Bros dominated the hw division for decades but people don't give them credit because they fought in a mediocre era. Same with Jones and Tyson. Some fighters luck out and are born at the right time. Don't be so simple.
Canelo is a better fighter than Adonis in a P4P sense, but the pimp in this prime would seriously fucking hurt Canelo. Just too big, and too much power.
Any of the big genuine 175lbrs should be doing him in..... He is a genuinely "blown up" guy at the weight. Calzaghe was tight at 168lbs, tight as a drum.... I think Alvarez could do 160 with some work and dieting. He did seem perturbed by Bivols shots last night. Anybody with serious zip would have taken him out last night.
Fucking Xplosive talked me out of betting on Bivol. Lol a russian will never get a decision mhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
