When it comes to big paydays most guys would probably come out of retirement. For example if Floyd called somebody out who's retired i'm sure if they didn't jump on it they would at the very least not dismiss it outright. Can't see much of a "ploy" with Brook. What big paydays are out there for him and what does feigning retirement do to increase them?
Fair play to the lisper then. He had a good career, and he'll go down as a good welterweight. Just wasn't elite, and that was shown against the three elite guys he faced. In this era, he fell right smack dab in between, as I believe he was better than Thurman, Garcia, and Porter, but obviously not up to par with Bud and Spence.
Retire from what? His whole career was a joke. In other boxing news Dusty Trunks announced his retirement from boxing. Lol
Special K was Crawford, Spence's, and Triple G's best win (unless you believe the cancer patient Jacobs was it)
Yeah exactly, I was never a fan personally but he had a good career and (eventually after much procrastinating) tested himself. Fell short against the very best without being humiliated and defeated his domestic rival in a grudge match. Got out with his health intact too and made some decent money, so fair play to him.
Ricky Hattons bald talentless brother gave Canelo and Brook better fights than Amir Khan did. I think this needs to be borne in mind..thanks
Did he though? I mean Matthew Hatton was literally nothing except tough, and he was tough as nails. Could certainly hold a shot better than Khan but at the same time he was never trying to win the fight like Khan was. Was he ever actually stopped? He didn't win a second of the fight against Brook from what I remember.
No. He might have won a round Vs Brook. Brook did as well with him as Canelo did. Matt Hatton had all the mobility of a Royal Mail postbox.
Yeah that's the thing, I wouldn't say Hatton did better than Khan against Canelo, even though Hatton went the distance and Amir got sent to another dimension. Khan was actually trying to win and the fight was competitive for a while.
I quit my job and spent my last pay cheque on lottery tickets. But at least I'm TRYING to get rich You get the drift ...
If it sticks, retiring now is an excellent choice. He went out on a relative high and with a W, he did as much as he could have with his ability and had a decent career that rose above domestic success. He still has his faculties and hopefully some money in the bank, too. Good luck to him.
I think there's a fine line between objective and constructive criticism and just being a pure hater. And ever since Canelo lost to Bivol all the haters came out of the wood work. Canelo fighting a bum like Brook??? Why in the hell would Canelo ever fight a b level welter like Brook? It's getting ridiculous he lost one fight and everyone is writing him off. All great fighters lost and came back.
Yeah, a "bum" like Brook is way below the standards of ole murder's row Alvarez. Kell ain't up to par with killers like Khan and Liam Smith.
What's even more hilarious is, Canelo had early trouble with Khan. But he beats Roy fucking Jones, eh?
I think hes been brilliantly managed. I think this is how the fighters of yesteryear were managed, guys like Jack Dempsey or Harry Greb. A lot of very careful selective matchmaking, home cooking, some talent and LOTS of very good media and, uh, careful management.
There'd be no issue if people just recognized him as a very good fighter. He is a very good fighter. Instead, you have alllllllllll of mainstream media referring to him as "one of the greatest fighters of all time." As if they could name more than 10 fighters in history... So yes, that makes Canelo absurdly overrated. Hard to recognize the greatness of a guy who's always had so much in his favor. Some clown I was following on YT said last week that Canelo would beat Hagler. I unfollowed immediately. Far too many casuals with boxing channels nowadays. Hagler would beat the fucking dog shit outta Canelo.
Monzon would be even worse for Canelo than Hagler would be. Monzon would give Canelo a horrid beating.
