Back to basics. Looks great.

 

I read some disturbing report that Obi-Wan is NOT the actual main character, but the Empire lady that is tracking down jedis. I hope that isn't true.

this looks like it will tease the first appearance of Vader until a big reveal in the last episode of the season

 

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy declared in an interview to EW that she rejected the first Obi-Wan Kenobi script because she deemed it 'too bleak' and that no one would watch the natural continuation of 'Revenge of the Sith'' (Obi-wan becoming a Tatooine hermit secretly protecting young Luke Skywalker), but instead she opted for 'more fun, planets travelling adventures with a diverse and inclusive new characters'...because Star Wars fans didn't want to watch the natural progression of ROTS?

Supposedly Obi-Wan and Vader have a duel here too, but if it isn't strictly a dream, it will ruin the events of A New Hope where they had their official rematch. I just don't trust anything Kathleen Kennedy touches. The Mandalorian was good basically because Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni kept KK away from the production and had zero creative input in that project.

As a former hardcore SW fan I hope I am wrong and this limited 7 episodes mini-series turns out good.

Actually he was right when he said the same thing about the He-Man show.

Anyway I can’t remember if I saw the new trailer for this during Dr Strange or not but it does look good. However I have to say that I don’t trust the trailers. IMO Star Wars has basically shit the bed at every turn so I’d be surprised if this any different. I hope I’m wrong though, because I intend to check this out.

He-Man wasn't as bad as he made out, not even close. The story made sense.

As for this, Disney has hit on The Mandalorian so hopefully Kenobi has a chance since some of the same people are involved. It's hard not to be excited to see that character and Anakin return.

The first two episodes are pretty good.

 

His point wasn’t whether the story was good or not. His point was that He-Man wasn’t the protagonist of the series even though it’s supposed to be his fucking show. To Panchy’s point, he was correct and just because you enjoyed that particular series so much doesn’t change that fact.

 

He-Man isn't Superman hiding in plain sight. He-Man is and was never going to be in majority of the scenes as he is called upon when there is trouble and Adam transforms. True fans understand that. Panchy was bitching about it during the first few eps of the series, the second half delivered much more He-Man which was in the overall plan.

 

You can keep defending this and saying Panchy was wrong but the fact is he was right. Whether it was He-Man or his alter ego Adam, for far too many episodes of this series he was regulated to MIA status while Tela ran around like it was her show. Show me another mini series that takes its namesake hero and barely has him in the majority of episodes. I hate the woke excuses but if ever there was a case to complain about a show pushing that agenda it was this one where Tela teamed up with a bunch of other women and a trans Orko and they went out to save the planet.

 

Did YOU even watch the series? Episode 1 He-Man/Adam is in it most of the ep. Then he returns at the end of episode 4 and is present for the rest of the series. Stupid take to say he wasn't there the majority of the time. There were 10 episodes total and he was in most of them.

 

Still haven't watched it (no Disney+ subscription since The Mandalorian finished), but from reviews I have read it seems that the writers of this limited series have tossed away the continuity established in both the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. Not going to spoil anything but the 3rd episode have events that simply should have NEVER happened if the writers had any respect for the prior Lucas works. If you have no continuity problems, you might enjoy this though.

 

Apparently fans are giving it a thumbs down to this series at RT with an Audience score of 56% rotten.

 

A fucking filler episode during a 6 episode series? Fuck Disney! This should be called the Reva and Leia show.

 

6 episodes and you're ok with a FILLER episode? I'd understand if we were talking older shows where they had 15 - 20 eps in a season but if you have only 6 episodes to tell a story, I can't see any good reason for filler.

 

Also, Interesting conversation in this and the HeMan thread. We have one guy who clearly loves this and won't hear a word against it and a guy who was interested but seems to understand why some of the criticisms of the show have some merit. The switch from conversation to attack at the slightest acknowledgement that the shows might not be perfection was my favorite part.

 

It's pretty clear that I wasn't thrilled to have a filler episode in a 6 episode series from what I wrote. Maybe a little more comprehension is needed so you can understand what I am saying in the He-Man thread as the below quote shows you don't get it.

This Obi Wan is merely 10 years older than the version who beat younger prime Anakin/Vader's ass on Mustafar. Yet here at the mere breathing of Vader he ran away like a scared chicken. Then Vader beats him EASILY using only one hand. Plus this encounter totally contradicts what was stated in A NEW HOPE where Vader admitted that the 'circle is now complete' as when they last met "I was just a learner, but now I am the Master". Somehow much, much older Ben Kenobi gave Vader a better duel than this younger Kenobi. Makes no fucking sense. Like all the recent Disney+ Star Wars offerings, this series had potential for greatness, but it flopped badly in the eyes of hardcore fans.

Kenobi hasn't been doing anything for 10 years so of course he's going to be way worse than Vader
what bothers me is that Kenobi has such good aim when firing guns...so he hasnt been practicing using the force for 10 years, ok fair enough..but he has been practicing his shooting skills?

 

You also have to ignore everything Leia said to Kenobi in that message asking for his help. Apparently they were best buddies the whole time.
