Who wins? It worth saying that Laguna would be by leaps and bounds the best lightweight Whitaker faced.
Whitaker via UD. He’d have some problems but I think Pete was just that brilliant that he’d win convincingly.
Fascinating styles match up. Laguna at his best (Ortiz 1) showed that he can be a difficult fighter to deal with. His speed and slick defense could give Whitaker a lot of issues but we've seen Whitaker great at adjusting. Not sure who to pick to be honest.
Between Laguna's fights with Locche and Elorde, I'd say it's clear he'd struggle with Whitaker's style. He'd simply struggle landing consistently and would get tagged by the left hand. Whitaker would have to get used to being both shorter and slower, but once he does, he takes over IMO. Laguna's 1-2-1 would really trouble Whitaker early though IMO.
Good points on the comparison with the Locche and Elorde fights. Whitaker would present the same problems that those 2 gave to Laguna such as defense (Locche) and southpaw attack (Elorde).
