as bad as I hate to admit it,..he is the greatest fighter ever. Absolutely zero weaknesses. Long career, long hiatus between fights at times, always in shape, … greatest defensive fighter of all time
Floyd is a great fighter but as someone mentioned not the greatest and it's not even close. Floyd has done a hell of a job marketing himself as "tbe" and if you were new to boxing you could fall for that nonsense. Casuals would fall for his 50 and 0 undefeated record. but IMO and in the opinion of many boxing fans he already lost to Castillo and beat a ufc fighter in McGregor to get that 50th win he brags so much about. too much smoke and mirrors with that guy.
He was marketed by the mainstream media as the GOAT because those fuckers didn't know any better. Until Floyd beat Oscar, those hacks at ESPN probably thought that Ali, Tyson, and DLH are the all time top 3. I'm not kidding either. Theres a lot of people who used to think those are the 3 greatest fighters ever. Kellerman was literally THE ONLY guy working for a mainstream network who knew the sport. Max has his faults, but one day I remember him saying on ESPN that Roy in his prime was better than Floyd, and as contemporaries no one ever considered Floyd to be Roy's class. The ESPN pundits looked stunned. They looked at Max as if to say: "So Floyd isn't God??"
Speaking of the clueless mainstream media. The King of the Hacks, Screamin A. Stiff, has Tank ranked as top 5 P4P. I rest my case.
what do you mean? If you mean they are both loud mouths then Yes. But Smith is clueless when it comes to boxing, unlike Kellerman who is actually quite knowledgable when it comes to the sport. he is a breath of fresh air compared to guys like smith and other talking idiots in boxing.
I meant Max is so Black he makes SAS look White. Kellerman is worse because he actually knows better and still comes out with biased hackneyed fan-boy bs.
I think Floyd did certain things better than Roy. Roy just had amazing physical gifts that made him untouchable . Floyd had better radar. Overall Roy was better., no question. Riy was better..... Until he suddenly wasn't.
Floyd was definitely better technically than Roy. That ain't enough to make him better. Floyd was better technically than Ali also, but I would rate mid-60s Ali as better than peak Floyd. I dont think Floyd has an upper tier peak. Just a really long prime. His peak was superb, dont get me wrong, but it ain't top 5. Duran, Roy, Pea, Ali, Leonard, i think those guys peaked higher than Floyd. I would also say that Monzon early in his reign and Hagler early in his reign were performing on a higher level than peak Floyd. Hagler declined by the late 80s, but to me, early 80s Hagler was better than Floyd ever was.
Hard to fully judge Mayweather Jr because he was never truly tested and never had to dig down to show everything he was capable of
To be fair, Floyd had a mean streak in him that I definitely don't see in a kid like Haney. Haney's just a nice kid with boxing ability. I saw promising flashes of a mean streak in Shakur in his last two fights.
I've seen a lot of weirdo YT channels like Seckback and Fighthype getting carried away with Haney beating Bumbozo. It has to be said that Bumbozo beating Tweek-o-Fimo and now Haney beating Bumbozo just shows how overrated that division is. When titles change hands in the blink of an eye it's not a very good sign of the times. Haney reminds me of Spinks. Good technical boxer. Good enough to outbox dumb brutes like Mayorga with a decent title run but you just got the feeling there was nothing special about him. both Haney and Spinks safety-first approach to boxing put a lot of people off. Haney is a train wreck waiting to happen if he ever gets in there with a guy that can bang. and Yes Shakur is 10 x better than Haney and has a brighter future.
Floyd should be top 10 all time. P4P I favor only 3 fighters against him heads up. Roy Jones Jr, Aaron Pryor and Sugar Ray Robinson (not saying they are higher historically, just in a fight)
These all good fighters (except for Ryan, he blows), but yeah, the "4 Kings" title has been overblowing the quality of these kids. I don't think Haney is a train wreck, but as I said, he's not the second coming of Ward or Crawford either. There can be an inbetween. He's just a good fighter. Josh Taylor, just a good fighter. Tank, just a good fighter. Teofimo has the TALENT to be more than just a good fighter, but I have my doubts of him reaching that potential. If you combined the best attributes of Haney and Fimo, you'd have a potential P4P #1 guy. As it stands, both have strengths, but also flaws.
While I think it’s correct to recognize Floyd as a great fighter, he really did go out of his way to avoid his toughest tests. He could have truly been greater had he just tested himself. But he elected to play it safe all the while calling himself TBE. Casuals will point to guys like Leonard and say that he ha “losses” and will tout Floyd’s defense but guys like Leonard had to prove it against high quality fighters in their prime. There’s no way Floyd retires undefeated if he had to face guys on that level.
Leonard was a gold medalist and known by everyone when he turned pro. it was easy for him to get paid huge purses against benitez, duran and hearns when he was young, ambitious and hungry. after that he retired, and was picking and choosing his opponents the same as mayweather jr did after the delahoya fight. when mayweather jr was young and willing to face anyone, he wasnt well known enough for it to make sense financially for the opponents he wanted to fight (casamayor, freitas, tszyu, unbeaten cotto, etc) to sign on the dotted line.
I'll admit, Floyd damn sure did wanna fight Tszyu. At the time, it wasn't seen as a big fight for the mainstream. Us hardcores wanted, but Floyd and Tszyu were both no-names at the time. Then of course, you got the fact that Tszyu was tied with Showtime and Floyd was with HBO. I remember saying even back then that Floyd would beat Tszyu's ass, but circa 04 most people would have picked Kostya in that matchup.
Tsyzu was always overrated. One shotting Zab Judah and hitting Floyd is a totally different ball game. He would have been schooled by prime Floyd and that's when he would have met him.
He's autistic, I'm sure of it. I think its a large part of why he's tolerated around those gyms is because people simply can't find the resolve to throw him out. But he's also cynical. He's making coin off his youtube account by giving off the impression that he's inside baseball and if he lost access to the gyms that would disappear overnight. So he maintains this geeky rucksack retard veneer. "Oh Eli? He's harmless!! Just a fan!! People like him!!" and he's stood there smiling like Pepe the , lapping it up.
Even Tyson likes Eli, and we know Mike can be easily annoyed. Mike must understand that Eli is special needs, so he tolerates him.
