I think the headscratcher this last season was United not being able to get four attackers to play together. They mostly played a 4-2-3-1 all season and had 10-12 attacking players on the roster. Big names that couldn't do shit. When Ole got shitcanned and Ragnick had the same issue, it was clearly not down to coaching.

City and Liverpool seem to bring in guys who hit the ground running. United are going backwards. I read and heard several "experts" saying that bringing in Ronaldo fucked everything up at United. Even though he's their main scorer.

 

It's going to be worse next season when the guy they're getting for half of Grealish's transfer fee (Haaland) scores 5× as many goals.

One of the most interesting things from those formation heatmaps was man utd's attacking line - their '9' (ronaldo mainly) was dropping deep so much his average position was literally identical to their '10'. Compare that to liverpool or, especially, man city and how disciplined their shape stayed. Between that and doing zero pressing, cr7 clearly not a team player

I just find it cool how well Alison's strengths jive with liverpool's system. Thats what separates a Klopp from the rest. If fate had landed him at Burnley or even a good team with a lower block like Spurs his xGA contribution would collapse and nobody would talk about him but within Liverpool's system he's the best on earth
