Artur Beterbiev vs Joe Smith Jr

Good fight this weekend between Beterbiev and Smith Jr. I think this has the potentials to be a barnburner for as long as it lasts, but ultimately I think Beterbiev punishes Smith Jr and takes him out in 9 rounds.

Gonna be a war. I think Beterbiev is gonna be too strong but Smith has a real puncher's chance. He's one of the biggest punchers in boxing and is every bit as physical as Beterbiev. He's nowhere near as skilled or experienced though and I think that's the difference here. Beterbiev in seven-ish IMO. Routing for Smith, though.

Old ass Beterbiev would still give Bivol a much harder fight than Smith did.

 

Smith isn't more lucrative. He's a marginal draw as far as selling tickets. Easier opponent but same bread for bivol and if he has belts bivol would have no issues taking that fight against his comrade

 

Yeah, Smith aint a draw. Kinda surprising that isn't a draw. He's a white Irishman from NYC, he's a devastating puncher, and no homo, he's a good lookin dude. Sounds like a marketing dream.

You would think that combination would make him a household name, but he remains a nobody to casuals.

I think what makes this fight intriguing is seeing just how much Beterbiev has slowed down and if he's still able to be this wrecking ball machine against a puncher like Joe Smith Jr. The only advantage Smith has over AB is age. AB's underrated skills and ring IQ will be the difference of this fight IMO.

 

If he knocked out a Russian brute with Chechen connections in a war, at Madison Square Garden, you'd think he'd become one.

Beterbiev is LESS of a name over here than Smith is. Noooooooooobody knows who Beterbiev is.

The U.S. is a big place, so I really can only speak to the NYC area.

The household boxing names over here are: Canelo (obviously. Hes a global star), Tank, Spence, Fury, Wilder, Crawford, and to a lesser extent Haney and Shakur.

Canelo and Tank are by far the two biggest two stars, at least on this coast.

You would THINK a New Yorker like Fimo would a huge name over here, but he really isn't at all.

Haney's a bigger name in NYC than Fimo; that shit must drive Fimo crazy.

Fimo would have to take the lesser purse against Haney, cause Dev is a bigger draw.

 

The U.S. really isn't anti-Russia enough for that to move the needle.

On a similar topic, i was always surprised that lemieux never became a draw, even in QC. He's dumb as a rock and zero charismatic, so thats probably the reason, but still, a good looking monster puncher like him seems like a promoter dream
